Trump wants GM CEO 'to do something quickly' to reopen OH plant

Trump wants GM CEO 'to do something quickly' to reopen OH plant”

President Donald Trump targeted both General Motors(GM) and a union official on Sunday over an OH assembly plant that the automaker closed earlier this month.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is calling out the President for a series of tweets centered on the General Motors Lordstown idling.

Trump said GM needs to act quickly because the economy "is so good" that other vehicle companies - like Toyota - are investing heavily in their US operations. "Time is of the essence!" .

Earlier in November, General Motors announced plans to cut 15,000 jobs and close manufacturing plants in Lordstown, plants in MI, and Ontario, Canada.

The president also expressed frustration that "talks" between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union would begin in September or October. She blamed the UAW Union - I don't care, I just want it open!' It's unclear if the Trump administration responded to Green's request.

On Sunday, President Trump published two tweets.

Entry to the fundraiser starts at $2,800 for a reception and prices go as high as $70,000 for dinner tickets for a couple, the report said.

"Why wait, start them now!" he wrote. As Mary Barra has said, GM plans to discuss our fate with the UAW in the fall and we are focused on getting a new product in Lordstown. The automaker also said that it has "opportunities available for virtually all impacted employees" at plants that are to be shuttered.

He also blasted GM for letting down the USA and asserted "much better" automakers are coming to the country.

Mr. Trump praised Toyota for its investments in the U.S.in an apparent attempt to depict GM as being less committed to its home country than the Japan automaker.

FG bans Boeing 737 Max airplanes in Nigeria
Air Canada , along with Southwest and American Airlines , are the major outliers in resisting a grounding of the fleet. The Boeing 737 Max 8 plane is the same as the one involved in the Lion Air crash last October killing 189 persons.

The Lordstown closure has become a hot-button issue in an area of OH that is expected to be critical for Trump if he seeks re-election as promised in 2020.

Trump has skewered several other USA companies for not doing more to help their country's economy, but his remarks so far have been more bark than bite. "We will leave no stone unturned to keep the plants open!"

The Lordstown plant shut down earlier this month, putting about 1,700 employees out of work. The automaker said that it will offer buyouts to almost 14,000 workers across these five plants and mass layoffs would follow soon.

Annual sales of the Cruze in North America peaked at 273,000 in 2014, but previous year totaled just 142,000, as Americans are buying fewer passenger cars and instead opting to purchase bigger sport utility vehicles or pickup trucks.
