FBI Joins Criminal Probe Into Boeing 737 Max 8 Certification

FBI Joins Criminal Probe Into Boeing 737 Max 8 Certification”

Canada said Tuesday it will make its own assessment of Boeing's modifications to its 737 MAX airliners before allowing them to fly again in its airspace, after two crashes in less than five months.

The first report of the pilots' conversation from last October's Lion Air crash emerged today, along with news that the same aircraft had been saved from disaster a day earlier by an off-duty pilot on the airliner.

The panel, chaired by Texas senator Ted Cruz, a Republican, said: "In light of the recent tragedy in Ethiopia and the subsequent grounding of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft, this hearing will examine challenges to the state of commercial aviation safety, including any specific concerns highlighted by recent accidents".

The pilots of a doomed Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX scrambled through a handbook to understand why the jet was lurching downwards in the final minutes before it hit the water killing all 189 people on board, three people with knowledge of the cockpit voice recorder contents said. Because profits matter more than people. Boeing went to work on upgrading the software to, among other things, rely on more than one sensor and limit the system's power to point the plane's nose down without direction from the pilots.

Trump wants GM CEO 'to do something quickly' to reopen OH plant
Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is calling out the President for a series of tweets centered on the General Motors Lordstown idling. He also blasted GM for letting down the USA and asserted "much better" automakers are coming to the country.

The Transportation Department's inspector general is conducting a review of how the plane was certified to fly and a grand jury under the U.S. Justice Department is also seeking records in a possible criminal probe of the plane's certification.

Boeing said it would cooperate with the DoT audit.

The pilot, who was seated on the cockpit jumpseat, gave the flight's crew instructions on disabling on a malfunctioning flight-control system, sources told the news agency. They're also checking if the pilots were trained about the system.

"It is like a test where there are 100 questions and when the time is up you have only answered 75", the third source said.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown Won't Run For President
Brown had flirted with a possible presidential run in the months since he was re-elected to the Senate in November. Throughout the past couple of months, Sherrod Brown has campaigned in four early primary and caucus states.

The FAA said its "robust processes" and "full collaboration with the aviation community" were key to safety worldwide. He also served as deputy administrator and in other capacities at the FAA.

It came as President Donald Trump named former Delta Air Lines flight operations president Steve Dickson as his choice to become the new head of the FAA after the agency has been without a permanent chief for 14 months. "We can't provide additional comment at this stage due the ongoing investigation on the accident", Lion Air spokesman Danang Prihantoro told Bloomberg. Furthermore, FAA employees were anxious about retaliation if they criticized the way the certification of Boeing aircraft was handled. The Max, the latest and most fuel-efficient version of the half-century-old 737, is Boeing's most popular plane, with more than 4,600 unfilled orders.

The MAX, which offers cost savings of about 15 per cent on fuel, was developed for service from 2017 after the successful launch by its main rival of the Airbus A320neo.

The company declined to comment.

Zuckerberg aims to merge Instagram, Whatsapp and Facebook messages
Zuckerberg said this is only the first step, as synchronizing the company's messaging apps could drive e-commerce opportunities. While this could work, it may also be the final straw for users who could turn to smaller encryption services like Signal.
