After one day, Trump reverses first DPRK sanctions since Hanoi summit”

The two Chinese companies were accused of helping North Korea duck sanctions now in place.

"I have today ordered the withdrawal of those additional Sanctions", Trump tweeted.

The Washington Post later reported, citing officials familiar with the matter, that Trump was in fact referring to future sanctions that had been scheduled for the coming days.

This was an apparent reference to sanctions the Treasury Department had announced Thursday on Chinese shipping companies doing business with North Korea. In a tweet on Friday, he mentioned "additional large-scale sanctions" by the US Treasury that had been added to already existing restrictions.

It's unclear whether Trump's decision was related to North Korea's move on Friday to abruptly withdraw its staff from a liaison office with South Korea.

While South Korea's president Moon Jae-in has tried to act as a bridge between Trump and Kim, Choe called her country's southern neighbor "a player, not an arbiter", because it was an ally of Washington. "Strategic Patience failed. Don't repeat it", he tweeted within hours of Trump's vague edict.

There has been no sign of direct contact between Washington and Pyongyang since the collapse of the February 27-28 summit, though Trump has stressed his good personal relationship with Kim and his administration has said repeatedly it is willing to reengage. Ltd. and Liaoning Danxing International Forwarding Co. One source believed Trump had conflated the sanctions that were still in the works with those announced by the Treasury Department on Thursday, as the latter were the subject of news reports on Friday.

The Treasury Department said evasion tactics employed by North Korea included disabling or manipulating automated identification systems, physically altering vessels, transferring cargoes between ships and falsifying cargo documentation.
