Bernie Sanders announces second USA presidential bid

Bernie Sanders announces second USA presidential bid”

The question now for Sanders is whether he can stand out in a crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates who also embrace many of his policy ideas and are newer to the national political stage. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday told Vermont Public Radio that he is entering the 2020 race for president.

Announcing his bid, Sanders did not pull his punches regarding the current Republican president, calling Trump an embarrassment to the nation and "a pathological liar".

Sanders, an independent who describes himself as a democratic socialist, announced on Tuesday that he's running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

In a year when Democratic voters have signaled an increased desire for racial and gender diversity, Mr Sanders would be only the second straight, white man in the field.

While blasting President Trump as a "pathological liar", Sanders said in the radio interview he's running to pursue policies like universal health care and a $15 minimum wage. She pointed out that in a Fox News survey, Sanders polled second behind former Vice President Joe Biden as the favorite Democratic candidate.

Pakistan foreign ministry website hacked, India blamed
The statement offered Egypt's honest condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured speedy recovery. But the popular opinion in both India and Pakistan seems against any military adventure.

"It is absurd that the taxpayers of this country have to subsidize the wealthiest person on Earth, who happens to be Mr. Bezos, because so many of his workers made wages that were so low that they were forced to go on food stamps and Medicaid", Sanders told CNN.

Mr Sanders has issued an apology "to the women on my 2016 campaign who were harassed or mistreated".

So far, almost a dozen Democrats have declared their candidacy for president or launched presidential exploratory committees, including senators Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar; Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard; and former Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary Julián Castro.

It has always been expected that the 77 year old, former Independent, now turned Democrat would seek another Presidential bid to challenge Trump, but many wondered if his age might be a factor.

But Sanders insisted his 2020 bid would not make the same mistakes: "We are going to have the strongest protocols to protect women and anybody else against any form of harassment". While she ultimately became the party's nominee, his campaign helped lay the groundwork for the leftward lurch that has dominated Democratic politics in the Trump era.

Over two weeks in January and February, Sanders unveiled plans to buy more than 50 years of padding for Social Security by raising payroll taxes on income above $250,000 and hike the estate tax on the wealthiest Americans - suggesting a top rate of 77% on billionaire heirs.

In the wake of the 2016 campaign, the DNC changed its presidential nominating process, in part by largely removing party leaders known as "superdelegates" from influencing the selection, a move Sanders supported. While Hillary was also ahead of Sanders with non-superdelegate delegates (2,205 to 1,983), Sanders supporters argued that the early support of the superdelegates gave Hillary a boost during the campaign.

Viewers also got to hear directly from Sanders on his definition of socialism.

"What they experienced was absolutely unacceptable and certainly not what a progressive campaign - or any campaign - should be about", Mr Sanders said January 10 on Capitol Hill.

A former mayor of Burlington, Vermont, Sanders won a US House of Representatives seat in 1990, making him the first independent elected to the House in 40 years.
