House committees mull subpoenaing Trump's interpreter from Putin talks”

President Donald Trump slammed a reporter on Monday who asked him if he worked for Russian Federation in response to a recent report from The New York Times that said the FBI investigated Trump for "working on behalf of Russian Federation against American interests".

Trump also said on Monday morning that the FBI has been discredited by Comey and its other leaders, including former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was sacked previous year after an internal investigation.

"I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", Trump said.

Trump also tried to defend his actions with Russian Federation, saying, "I've been tougher on Russian Federation than anybody else - any other - probably any other president, period, but certainly the last three or four presidents".

James Baker, who at the time served as the FBI's general counsel, told congressional investigators the FBI "theoretically" considered if Trump, in regard to Russian Federation, was "acting at the behest of and somehow following directions, somehow executing their will".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was Central Intelligence Agency director at the time the investigation was launched, declined to comment on the New York Times report, but insisted in an interview with CBS that "the notion that President Trump is a threat to American national security is absolutely ludicrous".

President Donald Trump on Monday denied he ever worked for Russian Federation against USA interests, addressing an extraordinary question that has haunted his presidency and shows no sign of going away.

Trump raised eyebrows on Saturday after he called into Jeanine Pirro's Fox News show and did not specifically deny having operated on behalf of the Kremlin. "I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written and if you read the [New York Times] article you see that they found absolutely nothing".

In the inquiry, counterintelligence investigators sought to evaluate whether Trump was a potential threat to national security.

In their message to Trump, the chairmen of the Intelligence, Judiciary and Oversight committees say: "Our nation's laws prohibit efforts to discourage, intimidate, or otherwise pressure a witness not to provide testimony to Congress".

Robert Mueller, who was named special counsel days after Comey's firing, has taken over the FBI's investigation.

On Sunday morning, The Washington Post detailed the "extraordinary lengths" the president had gone to so as "to hide details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials".

The meeting, which came in addition to a public sit-down between the two world leaders, was not reported at the time and only acknowledged by the White House a week later.

"You don't need me and McCarthy to make it", Dershowitz said.

"Little did I know that it appears that they were all in it together", Dowd told Kilmeade.

"So the questions I get are not about the latest obsession and allegations about Russia, Russia, Russia".

"Instead, they were simply trying to undermine a president they didn't like and avenge Comey's firing".
