Backed Syrian Force Declares ISIS Is in ‘Final Moments’”

President Donald Trump's announcement last month that he had chose to withdraw the 2,000 United States troops there stunned allies who have joined Washington in the battle against ISIS militants in Syria.

This came after Turkey vowed it "will not be intimidated" by Trump's threats of economic devastation if Ankara attacked Kurdish forces as U.S. troops withdraw from Syria.

In a tweet on January 14, Trump also warned the Kurdish forces not to "provoke Turkey".

Last month, Trump said he would withdraw some 2,000 USA troops from Syria in a statement that shocked several politicians in Washington as well as Western and Kurdish allies fighting alongside the US.

And before a visit to Ankara last week, White House National Security adviser John Bolton said the USA retreat was conditional on the safety of Kurdish fighters, provoking angry retorts from Turkish officials.

The partnership between U.S. forces and the YPG started in 2015, and the U.S. Department of Defense has provided the Kurdish militia with air support, weaponry and training by the Pentagon provide in the fight against ISIS.

Residents near border crossings that are typically used by USA forces going in and out of Syria from Iraq said they had seen no obvious or large-scale movement of U.S. ground forces on Friday.

Where the investigations into U.S. President Donald Trump stand
In the tweets, Trump insulted former FBI Director Comey, and claimed that the probe was a partisan bid to discredit him. The FBI also considered whether the Republican president's firing of Comey amounted to obstruction of justice.

Although Bolton told conservative radio host Huge Hewitt that he "delivered the message that the president wanted", one of Trump's advisors called Bolton's trip "entirely unfortunate".

Trump also reaffirmed his commitment to a planned withdrawal of the estimated 2,000 USA troops in Syria, while continuing to destroy the remnants of the Islamic State.

"We are trying to create an orderly, successful, deliberate departure of our forces. Turkey expects the USA to honor our strategic partnership and doesn't want it to be shadowed by terrorist propaganda", Kalin said in a tweet to the U.S. president.

"We stand to lose our way of life, we also stand to lose our property and our livelihood", said Ishak.

Pompeo said he had yet to speak with Turkish officials or Mr. Trump about the president's Sunday afternoon threat, and that he assumed the president was referring to the imposition of sanctions should Turkey take military action against the Kurds in Syria, vital USA allies in the fight against ISIS.

The Dec. 19 announcement via Twitter by Trump that US forces in Syria would withdraw was followed the next day by the resignation of then-Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

He also acknowledged some things still need to be worked out between Turkey and Kurdish forces, but remains confident of a positive outcome.

"We also know that those who aren't terrorists, those who were fighting alongside of us for all this time deserve to be protected as well", Pompeo said.

"They bandied this idea after they saw Turkey's determination", Cavusoglu said during a news conference.

"The withdrawal is based on operational conditions on the ground, including conversation with our allies and partners, and is not be subject to an arbitrary timeline", he said.

Fighters from the ISIS terrorist group are "living their final moments" in the last enclave they hold near the Iraqi border, as the US -backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) has engaged those fighters, a spokesman for the SDF says.

Another group that is fearful of the United States' absence in the region are the Assyrian Christians in Syria.

Turkey has consistently attacked positions belonging to the YPG, most recently near the town of Kobani in northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Bolton's comments a "serious mistake".
