Trump Threatens To Close Border If Democrats Won’t Give Him Wall”

President Donald Trump threatened on Friday to close the USA southern border if Congress does not agree to provide US$5 billion in taxpayer funds for his border wall, widening a dispute that has already closed portions of the federal government.

On Thursday, the Senate was in session for only four minutes after lawmakers didn't show up.

Incoming acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Democrats are ignoring an offer for border wall funding below Trump's original $5 billion request.

Rep. Mark Meadows, a close ally of President Donald Trump, told CNN's Dana Bash that negotiations "have not progressed" over the past 24 to 48 hours.

Trump declares end to United States 'policeman' role in surprise Iraq visit
The Iraqi prime minister recently said Iraqi troops could deploy into Syria to protect Iraq from threats across its borders. Trump had planned to spend Christmas at his private club in Florida, but stayed behind in Washington due to the shutdown.

Sons of Anarchy star, Danny Trejo, finds President Trump's border wall plan to be a waste of money.

In a series of tweets, Trump said he would close the border "entirely" if Democrats "do not give us the money to finish the Wall (sic) and also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country (sic) is saddled with". Mostly, the Democratic aides declined to take the blame-game bait being dangled by the White House.

"They left town", he said of the Democrats during an appearance on "Fox & Friends".

And in another sign the coming talks with Pelosi will be as much about his political future than anything else, he used another tweet to warn another migrant caravan is forming in Central America and to again threaten to cut off USA aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

The US House of Representatives and Senate adjourned on Thursday, paving the way for the current partial government shutdown to continue into the new year, when Democrats are taking control of the House.

Because of the partial government shutdown - which went into effect a week ago - President Trump canceled plans to spend Christmas in Florida, and stayed at the White House. "She does not have the votes and if she cuts a deal with the president of any sort before her election on January 3 she is at risk of losing her speakership", he added. The Senate bill contains $1.3 billion for border security excluding any concrete wall.

Trump tweeted Friday that if "Obstructionist Democrats" don't give him the $5 billion he is asking for to build his proposed border wall he will "close the Southern Border entirely". Democrats refuse to approve funding and the president, who has made hardline immigration policies a centrepiece of his presidency, has retaliated by refusing to sign off on a wider spending bill, leaving some 800,000 federal employees without pay.
