Instagram accidentally changed its layout - and users were not happy

But users who received it found that they needed to horizontally swipe through the posts on their feed, and also discovered that they could "tap" through the posts, much like one would while going through Instagram Stories.

But many Twitter users, as they are wont to do, had opinions on the potential change.

The tap-to-advance method to browse your friends' content more closely resembles the interaction within the popular "Stories" feature on Instagram. Head of Product at Instagram, Adam Mosseri, tweeted that the new feed was a test and was accidentally rolled out to far more users than Instagram had intended.

A statement sent by Instagram spokeswoman Paige Cohen said that "due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today".

There's been mainly outrage as users were greeted with the message 'Introducing a new way to move through posts.

Typically, an Instagram feed goes up and down, with a user able to flick their finger through a number of photos. Usually, change can be pretty hard to adapt to but when you're altering something that people have gotten so used to at this point - like the way we scroll through our Instagram feeds - backlash can get pretty intense. And while we're at it, let's go ahead and bring back a chronological feed. The update is meant to mimic how you watch Instagram Stories.
