"Instant personalization only involved public information, and we have no evidence that data was used or misused after the program was shut down", Papamiltiadis wrote.

Steve Satterfield, director of privacy and public policy at Facebook, said in a statement to The Post that the partnerships do not violate their users' privacy.

Some of the reported loopholes were more or less transparent to the end user, and may even have enabled fairer competition.

More troubling to observers, however, was any sense that Facebook gave third parties deep access to user data without properly informing users and gaining permission. "They are never going to volunteer to do the right thing". According to the report, the number of different agreements became unwieldy by 2013, so staff built a tracking tool that kept records on the special access companies had and could turn it on and off.

Spotify had indicated it was unaware of the degree of access Facebook had provided to it. Apple has also said that it was also not aware of its devices being granted special access.

"At no time did we access people's private messages on Facebook or ask for the ability to do so", it added. "You would have had to sign in with your Facebook account to use the integration offered by Apple, Amazon or another integration partner". Martial suffered an apparent hamstring injury in the second half of United's 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday. Obviously there will be a lot of rotation, but everyone is there to play and show 100 per cent in each game.

"Any shared data would remain on the devices and be available to anyone other than the users", the statement read.

Facebook's response has drawn criticism, even from its former chief security bod, Alex Stamos.

"I'm sorry, but allowing for 3rd party clients is the kind of pro-competition move we want to see from dominant platforms,"Stamos tweeted on Wednesday". "For ex, making Gmail only accessible to Android and the Gmail app would be terrible".
