Canadian dairy farmers' group pans new trade pact with U.S., Mexico

Canadian dairy farmers' group pans new trade pact with U.S., Mexico”

The negotiations between the United States and Canada appeared to be going nowhere fast when Trump warned once again last week that he was prepared to exclude Canada from a renegotiated NAFTA agreement.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on September 30 called it "a good day for Canada" after negotiators worked frantically ahead of the USA -imposed midnight deadline. In the aftermath of a disastrous G-7 summit in Quebec in June, Trump called Trudeau "weak" and "dishonest".

"The United States in its trade deals has lost on average nearly US$800 billion a year". Trudeau is a "good man" who loves Canada, Trump said.

The United States' copyright period generally lasts 70 years after the creator's death, which the new agreement isn't going to change.

In fact, the USA has always been a manufacturing powerhouse and by some projections - before the current deal - expected to be No. 1 in 2020.

He also said that Mexico and Canada have agreed to labor, intellectual property and environmental provisions in the new agreement. It replaces NAFTA, which Trump has lambasted as a job-wrecking disaster that has hollowed out the nation's industrialized base.

Plane passengers bled from their noses, ears on Jet Airways flight
India's Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a tweet it had sought an "immediate report" from official agencies. Jet Airways "posted a loss of about $189 million for the April-June quarter", the wire service said.

The U.S. agreement with Ottawa will boost American access to Canada's dairy market - with some concessions on its heavily protected supply management system - while shielding the Canadians from possible U.S. auto tariffs. It also offers Mexico and Canada partial protection from broader auto tariffs the Trump administration has threatened to impose, but falls short of marking those countries exempt.

Mr Trump spoke after earlier posting tweets claiming the new trade pact solved the "deficiencies and mistakes" in Nafta, which has governed trade between the three countries since 1994.

"These measures will support many - hundreds of thousands - American jobs", Mr Trump said.

Those remarks set the stage for a bitter struggle over trade, with Trump threatening to drop Canada from the regional trade pact altogether if it didn't yield to key United States demands. It was unclear, however, whether he had authority from Congress to pursue a revamped NAFTA with only Mexico.

Trump has approved the deal with Canada, a source familiar with the decision said.

"It removes that uncertainty that was hanging over the sector, in terms of our access to this North American market, in terms of the rules related to our integrated North American supply chain".

Between January 2018 to August. the Parliament sessions were a washout because of which the Bill was not tabled in Parliament. Others, like neighbours, can not lodge an FIR to prevent misuse of the proposed law.

Trump campaigned on a promise to rewrite NAFTA or get rid of it. Talks on a rewrite began more than a year ago.

This will allow them to sign the agreement before Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto leaves office December 1, the date that was the cause of the last minute flurry of activity.

Additionally, while speaking to reporters, Trump said that USMCA, which "has a good ring to it", is about fairness and reciprocity.

"This has happened, despite assurances that our government would not sign a bad deal for Canadians", Pierre Lampron, the organization's president, said in the statement.

Canada, the United States' No. 2 trading partner, is by far the No. 1 destination for US exports, and the USA market accounts for 75 percent of what Canada sells overseas.

Some of the key differences: increased dairy-market access for the USA, a new sunset clause, and tougher auto rules.

In August - more than a year into the negotiations - the United States and Mexico announced they had reached a two-way deal, after breaking away for bilateral talks on their outstanding issues. He said, however, that some of the new regulations may pose challenges for companies to adapt to. It also requires 40 to 45 percent of vehicles by made by workers who receive wages of at least $16 an hour, according to the Associated Press.
