And I want to say also that we have no doubt that as we do so, we'll enjoy the support of President Donald Trump and the United States of America. "And we are winning on trade. We are winning at every level", he said, veering off course in a meeting that was supposed to be about proliferation concerns.

'They do not want me, or us, to win, because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade, ' he declared.

German referee Felix Brych consulted with his assistant and opted to send the Portuguese star off. He continued: " A lot will depend on the referee's report as well ".

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi called Mr Trump's claim that China was attempting inference complete "nonsense".

The official was referring to China's imposition of tariffs on soybeans - a hugely important trade in the electorally crucial state of Iowa - as retaliation for Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods.

His accusation comes amid the ongoing special counsel investigation into Russia's attempts to interfere in the 2016 United States election, and concerns that the November elections could also be vulnerable.

Earlier this month, Mr Trump directed officials to impose tariffs on $200bn (£151bn) in Chinese goods, escalating a dispute over what the U.S. says are China's unfair trade practices, such as state subsidies. But China, Russia and other countries have been purchasing such advertisements for many years.

"I'm a facilitator. I want to see if I can get a deal done so that people don't get killed anymore", the president said.

In his earlier comments, Trump said his much anticipated but still unreleased Mideast peace plan could be presented in the next two to four months, but was not specific as to timing.

China's foreign minister Wang Li told Trump to his face when it was his turn to talk, 'We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China'.

He added that he wanted to have a plan "that is solid, understood by both sides, really semi-agreed to by both sides before we start a negotiation".
