Real 'People's Vote' on Brexit would be general election - McDonnell”

Corbyn's second in command, finance spokesman John McDonnell repeated that Labour was ready for an election, which he said was the "best solution", and that any new vote would not be a repeat of the 2016 referendum to stay or leave the bloc.

The Labour conference in Liverpool is to vote tomorrow on a motion to keep "all options on the table", including a second referendum.

Rather than committing the party to supporting a new referendum, the motion states that "if we can not get a general election, Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote".

"If Theresa May brings back a deal that does not meet our tests - and that looks increasingly likely - Labour will vote against her deal", he told Labour members at the party's conference in the northern city of Liverpool.

According to the YouGov survey of 1,054 Labour members, commissioned by the People's Vote campaign, 86 per cent wanted a final, public say on the outcome of Brexit negotiations, against eight per cent who opposed it.

- With Brexit dominating the party conference season, expect a big push by pro-EU MPs and activists for Labour to back the People's Vote campaign for a second referendum - something Jeremy Corbyn has so far resisted.

'Let's see what comes out of conference and then obviously I'm bound by the democracy of our party, ' he said.

Senior party delegates have agreed on the wording for a motion to be put to the party conference in Liverpool on Tuesday about what the party should do about Brexit if it can not get a general election.

Labour - which wants the United Kingdom to remain in a customs union but not the single market - has not ruled out voting for any deal Mrs May brings back from Brussels, ahead of the UK's 29 March departure date.

"I would like to say "Jeremy, listen to your membership and all of the people out here who would love to vote for you".

The rally was punctuated by cries of "stop Brexit" from the audience, but most speakers steered clear of the topic, ahead of a conference which Labour wants to focus on housing and workplace rights.

"I really worry about another referendum", said Mr McDonnell.

The Independent reports that plans have been discussed within the party for a Commons vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister to force an election if she fails to get her Brexit plan through Parliament later this autumn.

John McDonnell said the vote should "respect" the 2016 result and only be on the government's negotiated deal with Brussels.

Brett Kavanaugh: Second allegation made against court nominee
Ford had decided in August that she would not go public. "A good and honorable man and his family are receiving death threats". Republicans made a counteroffer on Friday of holding the hearing on Wednesday, and having Ford testify before Kavanaugh.

The move leaves the Prime Minister brutally exposed to a rebellion by restive Tory backbenchers, with fewer than a dozen able to fracture her fragile control of the Commons in the upcoming vote.

The Labor Party has never formally rejected the option of a people's vote on Brexit and leaders of the party have indicated they would prefer it to be resolved by a general election.

The final motion states: "If we can not get a general election Labour must support..."

Labour's conference starts today as a YouGov poll revealed 86% of members want a second referendum on the United Kingdom leaving the EU.

Previous batches of papers said businesses could face red tape, customers could see higher credit card fees and patients could endure delays to medical treatment.

"We have already had a people's vote - they voted to come out of the European Union", said Len McCluskey.

The motion being debated on Tuesday is far from a commitment from the leadership to back a second referendum.
