North Korea, South Korea begin ‘era of no war’”

Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said during a live press briefing in Pyongyang on Wednesday afternoon that Kim Jong-un personally invited Moon to visit the mountain, an active volcano that straddles the China-North Korea border, which Moon accepted. It features prominently in the North's propaganda, which extols the mountain as the birthplace of Kim Jong Il, the father of current leader Kim.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Pyongyang, the two Korean leaders agreed to turn the Korean Peninsula into a "land of peace without nuclear weapons and nuclear threats".

Moon and Kim teased a potential historic fourth meeting between the two leaders, this time in the South Korean capital.

"The North has made a decision to permanently abolish the Tongchang-ri engine test site and missile launchers, with the attendance of experts from relevant countries".

US officials are in touch with the North Korean regime, Pompeo said on Wednesday.

Stop military drills aimed at each other along the Military Demarcation Line, which divides the two countries, by November 1.

A copy of an article of the North's official newspaper Rodong Sinmun dated December 26, 1980 calls Mount Paektu a "sacred mountain of revolution" spearheaded by Kim Il Sung "in the flames of the arduous 20-year anti-Japan struggle".

SpaceX will send Japanese billionaire and guests to the Moon
Maezawa, whose net worth is $2.3 billion, is the founder and CEO of Japan's largest e-commerce company Start Today Co. Musk said the billionaire will pay "a lot of money" for the lunar orbit but he declined to disclose the exact amount.

"While this (the outcome of the third inter-Korean summit) may look small. our role is to hand over (the conversation) to the U.S.", Lee said. Kim's offer, however, could provide a way to jump start talks, analysts say.

Meanwhile, however, Moon and Kim made concrete moves of their own to reduce tensions on their border.

But discussions over how to implement the vague commitments have since faltered and North Korea has consistently refused to give up its nuclear arsenal unilaterally.

None of this is to say North Korean denuclearization is an impossibility, or that we may not see advances more dramatic than the liaison office soon.

Shortly after the announcement, Trump called Wednesday's developments "very exciting" on Twitter.

Moon said he and Kim had talked a lot about denuclearization and the dialogue between Pyongyang and Washington, especially on the first day of their summit Tuesday.

Moon, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and their wives attended the performance of "The Glorious Country" at Pyongyang's May Day Stadium on Wednesday night where they observed thousands of performers working in precise unison.

Photos of the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are displayed during a photo exhibition to wish for peace on the Korean Peninsula in Seoul, South Korea, Sept. 19, 2018.

North Korea will also take additional steps such as closing its main Yongbyon nuclear complex if the United States undertook unspecified reciprocal measures, Moon added.

But there have been concerns in South Korea and the United States that ending the war would ultimately prompt China and Russian Federation, if not North Korea, to demand that the United Nations Command (UNC), which overlaps with USA forces in South Korea, be disbanded and leave.

To go further, Mr. Kim has demanded "corresponding" measures from the United States, like declaring a formal end to the 1950-53 Korean War, which was halted only with a truce.

The war ended in an armistice, rather than a peace treaty, meaning US-led United Nations forces, including South Korea, are technically still at war with the North.

Such a declaration, which would fall short of a fully-fledged peace treaty, could give the impetus for North Korea to offer further concessions without prompting calls for United States troops to pull out.
