Wake Forest assistant men's basketball coach Jamill Jones was arrested in NY on suspicion of misdemeanor assault in an incident in which a 35-year-old man died.

Police arrested Jones, of Kernerville, North Carolina, on Thursday and charged him with third-degree assault.

Police say Jamill Jones punched Sandor Szabo early Sunday after he mistook Jones for an Uber driver. Police say Jones drove away from the scene, and Szabo was transported to a hospital, where on Tuesday he died from his injuries. According to multiple reports, Szabo knocked on multiple auto windows while looking for an Uber. The coach got out, followed Szabo to the sidewalk, clocked him and sped off, police said.

Jones' lawyer called Szabo's death "a tragic accident". Szabo was reportedly banging on cars before the incident, including Jones'. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 2. Szabo fell, hit his head on the pavement and lost consciousness.
