Trump slams media as 'opposition party' while papers defend free press”

Trump responded to the editorials, tweeting Thursday that the Globe is "in collusion with other papers on free press" and that much of the media is "pushing a political agenda".

Trump tweeted that he supports a free press but much of what the U.S. press prints is "fake news".

The US Senate on Thursday passed a resolution by unanimous consent affirming that the media "is not the enemy of the people".

In an effort led by the Boston Globe, hundreds of newspapers around the country pledged to unite in criticism of the president for his rhetoric in editorials. They also wrote that it is "un-American" and "dangerous" to label the media the enemy of the people. The Chicago Sun-Times said it believed most Americans know that Trump is talking nonsense.

The Boston Globe was forced to bring in uniformed police officers to its headquarters after the newspaper received multiple threats shortly after President Donald Trump attacked it on Twitter.

Omarosa says Trump arranged conference call with David Pecker
Trump White House officials have acknowledged that many staff members have signed White House NDAs as a condition of employment. Trump tweeted late Monday that no tapes existed of him using the word while filming " The Apprentice ".

Some newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal and the San Francisco Chronicle, wrote editorials explaining why they weren't joining the Globe's effort.

This resolution follows tweets Trump sent Thursday morning criticizing the "FAKE NEWS" media. Editors are publishing editorials defending the freedom of the press.

More than 300 newspapers have banded together to push back against US President Donald Trump's attacks on journalists.

U.S. President Donald Trump continues to air his grievances against the press at a Pennsylvania rally.

"To label the press "the enemy of the people" is as un-American as it is unsafe to the civic compact we have shared for more than two centuries", the Globe wrote in its editorial.

Mike Pence introduces Pentagon report calling for a space force
They said the Pentagon report was the start of a "multi-year process that we think will result in a safer, stronger America". Be that as it may, the administration is starting to fill out some details about what might go into a space force.

But media rights advocates say the stakes are too high to allow the president's claims to go unchecked.

"Trump's references to us as the "enemy of the American People" are no less risky because they happen to be strategic", the Kansas City Star wrote. Newspaper editorial boards overwhelmingly opposed Trump's election in 2016.

"We noted with regret the hurtful nature of his remarks last month calling most journalists dishonest even as we attended funerals for five friends and colleagues killed in the June 28 attack on our newsroom", it added. Far worse, in Mr Trump's America, some parts of the media are partisan outlets which show a cavalier disregard for truth: the president has embraced these.
