Trump arrives in 'hot spot' Britain, questioning May's Brexit plan”

US President Donald Trump arrives at Stansted on Thursday afternoon flanked by First Lady Melania for the first day of his United Kingdom tour.

On Friday, Trump will meet with Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II and then spend the weekend at one of his private golf courses in Scotland.

He will largely be avoiding London, where a mass demonstration is planned and where the "Trump Baby" balloon will be flown above Westminster.

Like this go-round, protesters promised widespread backlash back in February amid the president's plans to travel to London for the grand-opening of a new USA embassy.

"I think that's why Brexit happened", he said, noting that Britain was "a pretty hot spot right now with a lot of resignations".

The poll conducted this week said 63 percent found Trump racist, and 74 percent said he was sexist.

Meanwhile, people began returning to work Monday at the Annapolis building that includes the Capital Gazette's offices. He also said the paper "stepped up security" years ago and posted the suspect's photo around the office.

At the same time, Trump will be touring a defense site with May outside of London. The couple will attend a gala dinner at Blenheim Palace out in the countryside on Thursday evening.

But besides that, the United States president is set to avoid much of the mass protests as most of his official engagements have been planned outside London.

In a list of "actions to take", the warning recommended that Americans, "Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent", "keep a low profile" and "be aware of your surroundings".

Some British citizens are even more distressed about Trump than they are about the U.K.'s own feverish political turmoil.

May hopes Trump, who arrived at Stansted airport from Brussels, will help accelerate a future free trade deal, though his public comments on Brexit have cast a shadow over the visit.

Trump's itinerary will keep him out of central London on Friday, when large protests are planned.

The prince's official itinerary lists Jerusalem as part of the "Occupied Palestinian Territories", frustrating Israeli officials. He also visited his great-grandmother Princess Alice's tomb in the Russian Orthodox Church.

Protests are expected against Trump, whose policies - including a travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries, the detention of child migrants on the US-Mexico border and the imposition of tariffs on European Union steel and aluminium exports - have all been criticised by the UK.

Ignoring all diplomatic niceties, the convention-shredding U.S. president set up the four-day visit with a rebuke of his beleaguered host as she battles to stop her government falling apart over Brexit.

"The people voted to break it up (Britain's ties with the EU)", Trump told a press conference.

Trump "has proudly sparked passionate often divisive emotions about things, I think Americans living here to eager to turn out and express their views", he said.

According to his itinerary at this point, his only formal event in London - where his unpopularity is high - is a closed press meet and greet at the US embassy on Thursday.
