Death Toll From IS Attacks in Syria Rises to 302”

Islamic State militants killed scores of people in a series of attacks on government-held parts of southwestern Syria on Wednesday, including multiple suicide blasts in Sweida city, official sources said.

The city of Sweida has largely been spared most of the violence Syrian cities have witnessed in the years since the conflict started in 2011.

In Sweida city, three ISIS militants detonated suicide vests while explosions rang out from clashes in the eastern countryside of Sweida province, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group.

The terrorist attack committed suicide bomber blew himself up at the city market in es Sweida.

In recent weeks regime forces have ousted rebels from most of the area, part of which borders the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and though it controls nearly all of Sweida province, ISIS retains a presence in desert areas of its north and east.

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognised internationally. It said the dead included at least 41 civilians.

The reports also say the Syrian troops raised the national flag near the Israeli occupied part of the strategic region on Thursday.

A handful of suicide bombers on motor-bikes went on a rampage reminiscent of some of the group's bloodiest attacks during the height of their power when large swathes of Iraq and Syria was under their control.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

The two BM-21 rockets that crossed into Israel were said to be spillover from internal fighting in Syria between Assad's army and IS-affiliated rebels.

Meanwhile, SANA said the army, with the help of the locals in some of the towns that were attacked by IS in the northeastern countryside of Sweida, succeeded in pushing IS out.

SNN also shared the names of at least 18 people abducted from one village, Shabki, majority women.

Sweida Governor Amer al-Eshi said authorities also arrested another attacker.

Since their offensive in June, Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces have retaken territories controlled by the rebels along the Golan Heights frontier and are now fighting militants in the country's southern tip.

ISIS was driven from almost all the territory it once held in Syria a year ago in separate offensives by the Russian-backed army and a US-backed militia alliance.
