'Star Wars' Spinoffs Suspended After Tepid 'Solo' Box Office

'Star Wars' Spinoffs Suspended After Tepid 'Solo' Box Office”

It's no secret, at this point, that Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't live up to Disney's expectations at the box office.

No other films in the spinoff franchise have actually been confirmed, though strong rumours indicate that entries for Boba Fett and Obi-Wan are at some stage of pre-production.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 20, 2019.

The public is getting its first look at what the conditions are like inside an old warehouse in South Texas where the U.S. An estimated 2,000 children have been separated from their parents between mid-April and the end of May.

Following the disappointing box office returns of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm and Disney are reportedly putting future Star Wars anthology films on hold indefinitely.

Disney and Lucasfilm will reportedly only hire proven directors for future Star Wars films, given their history of parting ways with young directors.

Today's updates suggests studio big wigs are having second thoughts on proceeding, perhaps based upon Solo's well-publicised production problems and relatively lukewarm box office reception.

Justin Trudeau: We won't be pushed around by Trump
To United States, frankly, it would be a good thing but I'm not looking to do that. If leaders were "cordial" with Trump he may have taken it the wrong way.

Not only did Solo: A Star Wars Story divide audiences, but it bombed at the box-office. Not only did it hit cinemas just weeks after the release of major blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, but it also came mere months after the critically acclaimed but ultimately divisive The Last Jedi. Maybe it was marketing that didn't work, maybe it was that Harrison Ford as Han Solo is the real draw of the character, or maybe no one really wanted to see a Han Solo with a very different personality that hadn't quite become the familiar, beloved character yet. Weiss. Those films aren't part of the Star Wars Story branding, and are still going ahead as planned.

On the creative side, the spinoffs have faced enormous obstacles as well: major portions of both Rogue One and Solo were reshot with different directors, while an early attempt at a Boba Fett movie was scrapped outright after its director (Josh Trank) was let go.

We'll tell you more as it emerges.
