Danica Patrick crashes in Indianapolis 500”

Danica Patrick's racing career ended with a wreck in Turn 2 at the track that made her famous.

As Power held off pole victor Ed Carpenter to win his first Indy 500, the 81-year-old Penske pumped his fist in the air and clapped for his driver.

"Today was really disappointing for what we were hoping for and what you want for your last race", Patrick said during an in-race interview with ABC. "I mean, to finish up at a place that has so many good memories for me, and at the biggest race of the year for Indy cars and arguably the biggest race of the year, period".

Patrick's career stretches back to 2005 when she first raced for IndyCar. "I've had so many wins, so many poles". He posted throughout the day about the race, and he even streamed the whole event from inside his auto.

"Can't believe I came all the way from Toowoomba to be a professional driver and I never expected to be here", screamed Power.

Pole sitter and hometown hero Ed Carpenter, who led the most laps of the race at 65, finished second, more than three seconds behind.

"I wish I would have finished stronger".

"We lost the lead in one of the pit sequences, so we'll have to look at the data and if I had a bad in-lap", he said. "I was wondering if I would ever win it and thoughts when through my mind during the month, my career", he said. Power also won the road-course event.

"I've slowly changed to be a more positive person". But she said this week that she didn't have any regrets about her career.

From now on, however, individual victims-but still not a class-will be able to choose between open court and arbitration. Those alleging assault who wish to be part of a class action suit are still bound by the arbitration clause.

It was Power's 34th career IndyCar victory but his first in the sport's biggest race, coming in his 11th try. That put her in good company, as she finished ahead of three-time victor Helio Castroneves and a number of other Indy 500 winners. "But we had some good moments". Sebastien Bourdais, three-time victor Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan also lost control and wrecked. Kanaan's crash with 12 laps remaining set up a final restart with Oriol Servia out front.

Her crash was third in 20 laps of the race, which also took out defending champion Takuma Sato on lap 48 after running into the back of James Davison in Turn 4. But all three needed enough gas to get to the finish line, and it was Power who was frantically chasing them down.

The temperature at Indianapolis Motor Speedway hit 33 degrees early in the afternoon, equaling the hottest 500 on record.
