The US Senate Floor Sees Its First Baby, But Many Traditions Stand

The US Senate Floor Sees Its First Baby, But Many Traditions Stand”

The rule change allows all senators to bring children onto the Senate floor, specifically hoping to address concerns regarding hours long sessions or late-night votes where legislators are required to step away.

Duckworth brought her newborn baby, Maile, to the Senate floor to vote Thursday just weeks after giving birth - marking a pivotal moment for lawmakers and their families a day after the Senate passed, without objection, a resolution that allows senators to bring their children under one year onto the floor.

"It's awesome and it's about time", a beaming Duckworth said when asked how it felt to cast her first vote since giving birth on April 9 to Maile.

She gave birth to her second daughter, named Maile Pearl Bowlsbey, April 9. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) recently became the first senator to give birth while in office.

"It was a very practical debate of how does a new mother mange to vote and yet take care of her child", Collins said.

Love Em Or Over Em? Is The Walking Dead DEAD?!
Despite the fact the numbers are less than ideal for the show, it was nevertheless the highest-rated program of the night. Now that the season 8 finale has aired, fans are going to have a ton of questions running through their heads.

Lawmakers in the United States Senate may now bring their young babies with them to work. I really don't think we wanna go there.' So that broke down those arguments. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and outgoing Sen. After all, he argued, it's indeed possible for a senator to cast a vote from the cloakroom.

Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she's spent almost two months reassuring colleagues of both parties that new parents won't change diapers or nurse in the Senate chamber.

"Breast-feeding is a normal and natural thing that women have been doing since time immemorial, and in that sense, it's quite unusual to me that it caused such a sensation", Waters said.

However, Klobuchar and other allies said the Senate should aim to make work life easier for parents. So Duckworth raised a rare question that split her colleagues more along generational lines than well-worn partisan ones.

"It's like any job", she said.

Four Palestinians killed in Gaza by 'mysterious explosion'
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza identified the slain Palestinian as Islam Hirzallah, 28, from Gaza City. An Israeli military spokeswoman had no immediate comment.

Klobuchar's answer to that suggestion noted that Duckworth lost both legs and partial use of an arm in Iraq, and mostly gets around by wheelchair.

In a tweet Thursday about her daughter, Duckworth said, "Maile's outfit is prepped".

Klobuchar said it's well past time for the Senate to change its rules once again. So Gillibrand got permission to hover at the threshold of a door to the Senate floor, holding her son while leaning her head in to vote.

Eventually, Hatch's office turned to Twitter, admitting that 10 babies in the Senate "would be a wonderful thing".

Most senators, though, have been supportive, Klobuchar said.

Pep Guardiola warns Manchester City players: we can still blow title
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham in third and fourth both lag 17 points behind with a far inferior goal difference to City. They have been playing great with a lot of success in the last two, three seasons and are in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

However, he does not believe it is "necessary" for babies to be on the Senate floor during voting.
