Manmohan Singh was criticising Modi for staying silent on Kathua case, where an 8-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered, and Unnao case, where a teenager was raped by a BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The protesters alleged that Indian army deployed in Kashmir "is using rape and other crimes as a weapon of war to crush Kashmiri people's struggle for their right to self-determination".

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families, the speakers said the rapes across India as well as in every corner of the earth were "nothing short of evil" and everyone needed to stand up against the perpetrators. Manmohan Singh said "should follow his advice to me" and "speak more often".
