13-year-old Boy Unearths Lost Treasure of 10th Century Danish King”

An archeologist holds an ancient Danish coin which was minted under King Harald Bluetooth.

René Schön and his pupil Luca Malaschnitschenko were using metal detectors on Germany's Rügen island when they found a piece of metal.

Archaeologists search for coins and jewelry after a medieval silver treasure had been found near Schaprode on the northern German island of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea.

U.S. bans American companies from selling to Chinese phone maker ZTE
The U.S. action against ZTE is likely to further exacerbate current tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade. Among these commitments was to discipline senior employees involved in the transactions.

A single silver coin was first found in January by two amateur archaeologists, one of them a 13-year-old boy, in a field near the village of Schaprode.

Now, three months since the initial find, they have unearthed more than 4,000 square feet of land, discovering many more artifacts.

Archaeologists said about 100 of the silver coins are probably from the reign of Harald Gormsson, better known as "Harald Bluetooth", who lived in the 10th century and introduced Christianity to Denmark.

Egypt down 2 spots, Tunisia up 9 spots in Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings
The last one, hosted by the United Arab Emirates late past year , drew an average of just 16,500 spectators to its games. FIFA reportedly sets up a meeting with top football agents to discuss ways to reform the practices of intermediaries.

Gormsson was one of the last Viking kings of Denmark and became popular for bringing Christianity to the country. He's also credited with uniting swathes of modern-day Norway, Germany, Sweden and Denmark under his rule. These dates indicate that the treasure was likely buried in the late 980s, when Bluetooth lost a battle against his rebellious son, Sweyn Forkbeard. It is in his honor that the Bluetooth wireless communication technology has been named. He died a year later in A.D. 987.

The discoverers of the treasure belong to about 150 active volunteer in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, who in their spare time with metal detectors and Global Positioning System devices run over the fields in the northeast stripe. "We have here the rare case of a discovery that appears to corroborate historical sources", archaeologist Detlef Jantzen told the Guardian.

The oldest coin uncovered at Rügen dates to A.D.
