South Korean president assures political rivals that North Korea sanctions will continue

South Korean president assures political rivals that North Korea sanctions will continueā€¯

He said Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will establish a "hotline" communication channel to lower military tensions, and would speak together before the possible summit.

The meeting marked the first time South Korean officials have met with the young North Korean leader in person since he took power after his dictator father's death in late 2011.

This comes after Seoul announced the two Koreas would hold a summit in the Demilitarized Zone in April and that the North's leader Kim Jong-un was willing to stop provocative missile and nuclear tests.

Sounds good, right? After all, Kim has placed nukes at the core of his authoritarian rule over 25 million North Koreans and vowed not to abandon them at any cost.

The United States, Go said, may face a "dilemma" over whether to accept the North's reported offer for talks, but, in the end, it may pursue "exploratory talks" to hear directly how far North Korea is willing to disarm.

Mourners filling tent for Billy Graham funeral
Graham was laid to rest at the Billy Graham Library's prayer garden alongside his wife, Ruth, who passed away in 2007. Franklin Graham learned inmates had been building caskets for other inmates who died while serving their sentences.

"We hope that the DPRK and the ROK can earnestly implement the relevant consensus and continue with their efforts to advance reconciliation and cooperation", Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in the statement, using the acronyms of the North and South.

Many in Seoul and Washington will want to know if, the rhetoric and smiling images notwithstanding, there's any possibility Kim will negotiate over North Korea's breakneck pursuit of an arsenal of nuclear missiles that can viably target the U.S. mainland.

"There's enough traffic on the roads, enough people trying to get around the country to the various locations not to run truck convoys and military exercises and shut down roads", Mattis said, calling the delay in the exercises "not that unusual".

Kim Jong Un's half-brother was assassinated on the orders of the North Korean government, the US has said.

Kim Jong-nam was largely estranged from his family and was bypassed for the leadership in favour of his younger half-brother, Kim Jong-un.

North Korea has yet to confirm the concessions Seoul says Pyongyang has offered so its motives are open to interpretation. "We don't aim for that to happen and it's also impossible". South Korea and America could do the same, but North Korea should never, ever, be rewarded for coming to the negotiating table. And achieving its nuclear aims rests on the North resuming tests of missiles and bombs that set the region on edge.

Kim Yo-Jong, who also attended Monday's dinner, and other senior North Korean officials met with Moon during the Olympics, conveyed Kim Jong Un's invitation to visit Pyongyang and expressed their willingness to hold talks with the United States. Talks or no talks, North Korea will continue on its nuclear trajectory.

That would mark the first time that a North Korean leader has ever entered southern territory.

Another important note: Everything we're hearing about the North's offer has come from the South. North Korea's state media haven't said anything concrete about what was said during Chung's trip to Pyongyang.

"The North also said it can have frank talks with the United States on denuclearisation and the normalisation of ties between North Korea and the United States", Chung said. In October, thousands of bottles of bootlegged whisky, beer and wine were stolen from a North Korean diplomat's home in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
