Orange County joins DoJ lawsuit against California's 'sanctuary' law

Orange County joins DoJ lawsuit against California's 'sanctuary' law”

President Donald Trump Wednesday morning offered his support for Orange County residents and public officials who are opposed to California's controversial sanctuary state laws. However, the sheriff's department stated its objective is to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

"California's Sanctuary laws.release known risky criminals into communities across the State", he added.

ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley wrote in an email late Monday that she would not comment "beyond what the Sheriff has said".

At Tuesday's county board meeting, critics of the California policy wore American flag apparel and waved signs reading, "No, No, No Sanctuary State".

In early March, the Justice Department sued the state of California, alleging the three sanctuary state laws interfere with federal immigration activities and "intentionally obstruct and discriminate" against the enforcement of federal immigration law.

A few other Orange County cities are considering resolutions and other moves to voice their opposition to the law.

Iowa family dead in Mexican condo: Vacationers' cause of death released
On Monday morning, the family was working on finalizing funeral arrangements and returning the bodies of the Sharp family to Iowa. The condo was rented through Vacation Rentals By Owner, or VRBO, according to HomeAway, the parent company of VRBO.

That law, known as SB 54, limits the cooperation of local law enforcement agencies with federal immigration authorities.

Speaking during his opening monologue on "Hannity" Tuesday night, Sean praised Orange County officials who are openly rejecting California's "unconstitutional" Sanctuary City policies; saying the state's liberal legislators are violating federal law.

In addition to the sheriff's department and Los Alamitos, other Orange County agencies are taking stands against SB 54 or considering do so.

State Sen. Kevin de Leon, who wrote the law and is challenging Sen.

"Here in California, we respect the Constitution and follow the law", Becerra said in a statement in reaction to the Los Alamitos ordinance. Supervisor Michelle Steel, an immigrant from South Korea, told the crowd that fixing the country's immigration system will take time. "The people of Orange County deserve better". Orange County, which is home to Disneyland and wealthy beach communities where many people vacation, has always been known as a GOP stronghold, but Democrats have gained significant ground in recent years.

The backlash over the law aimed at protecting immigrants from stepped-up deportations under the Trump administration comes a week after the small city of Los Alamitos in Orange County voted to opt out of it.

Spain's Supreme Court ruled on Friday that 25 Catalan leaders would be tried for rebellion, embezzlement or disobeying the state. The court will then decide if Puigdemont will be formally taken into custody pending extradition proceedings , it added.

The bill includes provisions to lift restrictions on coordinating with ICE if law enforcement encounters major criminals, like violent offenders or drug traffickers.

"The Sheriff's Department announced yesterday ... the Sheriff's Department is going to start putting every single in custody on the website", he said.

Barnes said the new rule will safeguard the community.

Hutchens has been an outspoken critic of SB 54, which she said "makes local law enforcement's job more hard and requires bureaucratic processes that could allow risky individuals to fall through the cracks of our justice system".

"My department...remains committed to cooperating fully with federal authorities in all areas where I have discretion to remove serious criminals from our community", Ms. Hutchens said.
