Arizona governor, Uber kept self-driving auto program secret

Arizona governor, Uber kept self-driving auto program secret”

"California may not want you".

The precise causes of the Arizona accident are not yet known, and it is unclear how the vehicle's sensors functioned that night or whether the lidar's blind spot played a role.

San Francisco-based Uber did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

"Starting this weekend, we'll start testing some self-driving functionality". After impact, the safety driver looks up, stunned.

Driverless cars are supposed to avoid accidents with lidar - which uses laser light pulses to detect hazards on the road - and other sensors such as radar and cameras.

FIFA World Cup Russia Organizing Committee to Analyze Russia-France Game
The United States said on Monday it would expel 60 Russian diplomats, joining governments across Europe in punishing the Kremlin. A few hours later, Ms Bishop tweeted: "That is wrong - the government is not considering a boycott of the World Cup".

The governor's self-driving oversight committee met for the first - and only - time in August 2016.

E-mails, however, show that Uber started testing self-driving cars in Arizona several months earlier.

From the beginning, Arizona has been very public about the testing and operation of self-driving cars - it has been anything but a secret.

In a statement released to the media, Ford said safety is the company's top priority, and company officials are taking a wait-and-see approach after the Uber incident, reports the Washington Post.

Speaking on the partnership, Christian Freese, GM-South, Uber India said, "The government can now not just create an asset but can also provide a market linkage for income generation and monitor its performance".

China's space lab set for re-entry, but where will it hit?
An out-of-control Chinese space station is predicted to crash into Earth over the Easter long weekend, experts say. You have a better chance buying a regular quick-pick to the next two Saturday lotteries and winning both.

Uber said it chose not to renew its California testing permit because it knew the application would not be considered until the Tempe probe had concluded.

It is unclear how exactly the Uber suspension will be enforced. The cars are still at the development stage and involve a complicated system of hardware and software, which are often manufactured by suppliers outside partnership.

According to a report from the official Xinhua news agency on Wednesday, the test was recently completed in Xiongan, a new development zone created previous year under direct orders from Chinese President Xi Jinping. Last week, Uber's CEO tweeted "we're thinking of the victim's family".

The fallout from the accident could stall the development and testing of self-driving vehicles, created to eventually perform far better than human drivers and to sharply reduce the number of motor vehicle fatalities that occur each year.

While it's all conjecture at this point in time, it is possible that had there been less blind spots, it is possible that Uber's self-driving vehicle might have been able to stop in time to prevent the accident from happening. I'll bet Uber already has a pretty good idea of what happened, but so far they aren't telling.
