U.S. bans export of defence products and services to South Sudan”

The State Department said Friday the U.S.is restricting all sales of defense equipment and services to all parties to South Sudan's conflict, saying it is "appalled" by the continuing violence. The move, however, is mostly symbolic since the United States has nearly no defense trade with the East African country.

"We will appeal for a lot of money [.] for right now 2.4 million refugees in neighboring countries including Kenya, a number that we project will rise above 3 million by the end of the year if the conflict does not stop".

Some top officials close to Kiir have already been sanctioned by the United States, including the once-powerful army chief Paul Malong, who was later fired and forced into exile when he quarreled with the president.
