Study suggests 'modest' alcohol consumption can help you live past 90

Study suggests 'modest' alcohol consumption can help you live past 90”

The 90+ Study, led by neurologist Claudia Kawas from the University of California and initiated in 2003, studied over 1,600 people within the "oldest-old" group. A 2007 paper published by the study's researchers found that seniors who drank two or more alcoholic drinks a day (it didn't matter what kind) had a 15-percent reduced risk of death compared to nondrinkers. Daily exercise reduces the risk of early death by eleven percent. Surprisingly, participants who were overweight - but not obese -lived longer than normal or underweight people did.

Evidence has emerged that consuming a few alcoholic beverages each evening may see you live in to your nineties - despite the fact that doing so would also increase your weight. Researchers conducted a multitude of tests, including neurological, neuropsychological, and cognitive tests on the participants.

Uncertain future ahead for Ethiopia as PM resigns
Africa's second most populous nation has been plagued by years of unrest. Desalegn has served as prime minister since 2012. Protests later sprung up in the Amhara region.

"I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity", Kawas said at the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual conference.

She also noted that, while it was not bad to be thin, it seemed to be "very bad to be skinny when you're old".

Walgreens reportedly looking at buying AmerisourceBergen, Frisco's largest employer
Walgreens already owns 26 % of the company, which has analysts confused about how the deal would benefit the pharmacy chain. Reportedly, Walgreens may fund a major part of the deal through debt and is forecast to accrue substantial returns.

Coffee drinkers who had up to two cups a day cut their risk by 10 percent, while those with an active daily hobby cut their risk by 21 percent. "Maybe that can tell us something", Kawas added. In other words, if a person is still drinking at age 90, their health is likely good enough for them to do so. According to her studies, around 80 percent of those who have reached 90 years old are disabled, and 40 percent suffer from issues such as dementia.
