Nigeria says 110 girls unaccounted for after Boko Haram attack

Nigeria says 110 girls unaccounted for after Boko Haram attack”

One hundred and ten girls remain unaccounted for after a faction of Boko Haram raided their school in the northeast Nigerian town of Dapchi, Nigeria's Ministry for Information said in a statement Sunday.

Information Minister Lai Mohammed also said police and security officials had been deployed to schools in the state while efforts were being stepped up to rescue the missing girls.

Mr Manzo, whose daughter Fatima is still unaccounted for, said: 'This list did not come from the school management or any government source but collated by us from the parents of the girls, ' he said.

This time, they said, the military has already been deployed and is combing Yobe state, where Dapchi is. We will carry the parents along on efforts we're making, " the minister addressing the parents of the missing girls.

President Buhari of Nigeria has apologised after the authorities mistakenly claimed to have rescued more than 100 schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram last week.

The conflict has already been used to demonstrate the prowess of Russian cruise missiles and combat helicopters. It is not clear if the Jets would be used for actual combat operations.

Frustrated and angry parents of the missing girls have since announced plans to join the Bring Back Our Girls movement that was launched in 2014 when 270 girls were adbucted in the town of Chibok.

Although both Nigerian and African Union forces have driven Boko Haram from many of its former strongholds, the group remains highly active and launches deadly attacks on both military and civilian targets.

Other residents were also abducted by the militants and ordered to direct them to the school before being released, townspeople said. What this reminds us, in very painful way, I should add, is that as political actors, we should learn to separate politics from issues of security.

The students were said to have disappeared from the school after gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists invaded the school on Monday.

In his speech, Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam expressed his gratitude and those of the Yobe State Government for the prayers and the sympathy visit, expressing the hope that the Dapchi school girls will be found and returned to their families soon.

"When I met the Theatre commander on why the military were withdrawn, he said they have shortage of manpower".

Kachalla Bukar, whose 14-year-old daughter was among those missing, said he had been told the insurgents fooled some students into thinking they had come to offer protection.

It would seem that other than modest lessons in survival shown by the Dapchi girls to have been learnt from the Chibok saga, very little has been learnt by anybody else. Now, he said, they realise Boko Haram must have been waiting to exploit the reduced security.

He said the government was sending more troops and surveillance aircraft to the area to help the search.
