Lawmakers Weigh In on Indictment of Gov. Greitens”

And in Missouri, police arrested Republican Governor Eric Greitens Thursday after a grand jury indicted him on charges of felony invasion of privacy stemming from an extramarital affair in 2015.

In a weird bit of narrative jiu jitsu, the party somehow has laid the blame at the feet of billionaire, and bogeyman to the alt-right, George Soros.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO- It's no secret that politics can get dirty and Missouri's Governor Eric Greitens' scandalous situation is a prime example.

"Kim Gardner has received more than $200,000 from George Soros groups", said Sam Cooper Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. "The people of Missouri deserve better than a reckless liberal prosecutor who uses her office to score political points".

The party's decision to link the investigation to Soros, a popular target of the right, was foreshadowed by a Twitter exchange Wednesday between veteran GOP strategist Jeff Roe and Jane Dueker, who served as chief of staff for former Democratic Gov.

On Thursday, Greitens canceled a planned appearance at this weekend's Republican Governors Association meeting in Washington, D.C., and stepped down from the group's executive committee. "For the good of our state and the ideals we stand for, I believe that Governor Greitens should resign".

Tensions have also flared over the U.S. decision to cut funding to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The situation has only worsened since, with Trump sanctioning and condemning the Palestinians repeatedly.

"This personal matter has been addressed by the Governor and Mrs. Greitens privately years ago when it happened", the lawyer's statement read.

Bennecke's statement said the Republican Governors Association looks "forward to a quick resolution of this issue".

"As I have said before, I made a personal mistake before I was governor".

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the governor's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the indictment on the basis that everything that took place between the two parties was "consensual". He is due back in court March 16, before Circuit Judge Rex Burlison.

Greitens' attorney, Edward L. Dowd Jr., says Greitens was willing to meet with Gardner but she declined the offer.

Greitens was indicted on Thursday for allegedly threatening to release nude photos of a former mistress if she ever talked publicly about their affair. Republicans have already announced they are launching an investigation into the indictment charge.

Dutton says 14 imminent terror attacks have been stopped in Australia and 85 people have been charged with terror-related offences in recent years.

While several state lawmakers are calling for Greitens to resign, or are eager for an investigation that could lead to his impeachment, there's a chance this will play out in November's midterm elections, when Missouri voters will have a chance to weigh in on the state of the Republican Party.

According to Greitens' indictment, the governor has been charged with violating Missouri State Statute 565.252, which prohibits individuals from from photographing or taping someone "in a state of full or partial nudity" without their consent and carries a special three-year statute of limitations, according to the circuit attorney's office.

Meanwhile, state Democrats are demanding Greitens' resignation. "This law has never been prosecuted this way and it is safe to say if Eric Greitens wasn't governor, it wouldn't have been this time either".

Prosecutors allege Greitens took a compromising photo of a woman without her consent during an affair in 2015, before he was elected.

Greitens' charity, The Mission Continues, faced scrutiny during the campaign when Democrats accused him of insider politics for accessing the donor list to raise about $2 million through its top contributors.
