Alberta Suspends Electricity Purchase Talks With BC Over Kinder Morgan Pipeline

Alberta Suspends Electricity Purchase Talks With BC Over Kinder Morgan Pipeline”

The federal government needs to have a serious discussion with B.C. officials, said Alberta Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive Ken Kobly.

Trudeau said the pipeline is a key component of the federal government's approach to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, which means Ottawa had to get a national agreement on carbon pricing that will allow Canada to meet its worldwide commitments on climate change.

Trudeau continued to field questions on the pipeline expansion after arriving Thursday in Edmonton ahead of a town hall at MacEwan University.

She said she opposes the pipeline, but she was not happy about the reception Trudeau received. "We are putting in place a consultation and an intentions paper so that the public has an understanding of the potential impact of a catastrophic spill within British Columbia".

The move has infuriated Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, who has accused B.C. of trying to change the rules after the federal government already gave the project the green light.

Lexington Medical Center said they had received 27 patients, all with minor injuries, and they are all being discharged. "The key to this investigation is learning why that switch was lined that way, " Sumwalt said at a news conference.

As ugly as the prospect is of denying B.C. oil from Alberta, it has wide support among Albertans, who feel that that day should come sooner rather than later for B.C. Some even talk of boycotts of B.C. wines and of B.C. holidays.

Trudeau said Canada needs to get Alberta's oil safely to markets other than the United States.

Attendees were vocal about their disappointment in the Kinder Morgan pipeline, brandishing signs including "Climate leaders don't build pipelines", and repeatedly shouting over Trudeau.

"We're just going to reiterate that the decision we made was in the national interest and we're going to move forward with that decision, which means we're going to get the Trans Mountain pipeline built", he said. Up to $500 million annually for B.C.'s coffers hangs in the balance, Notley said.

"One of the things to remember is we have a federal government to look out for the national interest above various disagreements within the provinces".

"I don't see what the problem is", Horgan said Thursday at a school opening north of Kelowna, B.C. That's not what we're doing.

He downplayed any possibility of court action or sanctions by Alberta.

Nenshi also said that gas prices in B.C. would also take a hit.

But in B.C. on Friday, Trudeau's town hall crowd was more hostile. He said the federal government heard from thousands of people before the pipeline was approved.
