President Trump Will Support Pathway To Citizenship For All 1.8 Million Dreamers

President Trump Will Support Pathway To Citizenship For All 1.8 Million Dreamers”

The White House submitted the new plan to Congress Thursday.

Senior White House officials cast the plan as a centrist compromise that could win support from both parties and enough votes to pass the Senate.

House Democrats quickly bristled at a White House framework that would give 1.8 million DREAMers a path to citizenship, arguing that the deal for DACA beneficiaries is cover to "implement a mass deportation agenda".

Sanders added that the framework would provide a permanent solution for the young immigrants, who will benefit from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme, which US President Donald Trump had scrapped it earlier, the Hill reported. The framework would scale back the visa lottery system and limit legal immigration through close family ties.

Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., a leader in bipartisan Senate negotiations on the issue, said in a written statement, "Dreamers should not be held hostage to President Trump's crusade to tear families apart and waste billions of American tax dollars on an ineffective wall".

White House driving a hard bargain by demanding more than a wall
Democrats said they were heartened Thursday by Trump's support, while Republicans were more cautious. However, the President tweeted that "if there is no Wall, there is no DACA".

Trump hinted at the proposal to come on Wednesday evening in impromptu comments suggesting that he was open to allowing some of the young immigrants to become citizens in 10 to 12 years.

"People don't understand-the one problem I think the current occupant of the White House-they don't understand that sanctuary cities is [sic] what helps law enforcement".

"Nobody raised their voice but there was real pushback", said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, who complained that there was little to no consultation with any of the conservative groups before the plan was released.

Rev Dr Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, who has campaigned strongly for Dreamers, said the decision is "a fulfilment of everything this administration has promised us since President Trump's inauguration".

"I think that we need to secure the southern border, and we have to turn off the inducements that lead to illegal immigration", Kelli Ward, who is running for the Republican nomination for Senate, told ABC News' Martha Raddatz in an interview for This Week airing Sunday.

The end to the USA government shutdown implied a shift to risk-on trade, said Rand Merchant Bank currency strategist John Cairns.

The call grew contentious, some of the sources said, when Miller began to solicit input from the conservative immigration groups, many of which have long advocated restrictions on legal immigration and no amnesty for undocumented immigrants now in the United States. Just over two weeks ago, in a televised negotiating session at the White House, Trump said he would sign anything that got to him.

Other Republicans said citizenship for Dreamers could not be discussed without considering other aspects, including border security.

Parents of immigrants would not receive any legal status. The Trump White House seems to have made that error, establishing 1.8 million "Dreamers" as a new anchor, a new minimum target for amnesty.

"I do not believe we should be granting a path to citizenship to anybody here illegally", said Texas Sen.

A visa lottery aimed at increasing diversity would also be eliminated. The Department of Homeland Security has requested $18 billion to build and refurbish a total of 700 miles of walls and fencing.
