FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe steps down

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe steps down”

In a recent conversation, Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, raised concerns about a forthcoming inspector general report examining the actions of Mr. McCabe and other senior F.B.I. officials during the 2016 presidential campaign, when the bureau was investigating both Hillary Clinton's email use and the Trump campaign's connections to Russian Federation.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pushed back against suggestions that President Trump had anything to do with McCabe's ouster.

McCabe has been the subject of scrutiny in recent weeks as the FBI has faced allegations of bias in its investigations of the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

He then re-signed with the Patriots, but only appeared in two games before being placed on season-ending injured reserve. Offensive lineman LaAdrian Waddle and running back Mike Gillislee missed part of practice for the third day in a row.

Trump on Twitter asked in July, while McCabe was acting Federal Bureau of Investigation chief, why Attorney General Jeff Sessions had not replaced him, and said in December McCabe was "racing the clock to retire with full benefits" and that the FBI's reputation was in "tatters".

Asked about Trump's confidence in Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosentein, who is expected to be the next to go, clearing the way for Trump to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, Sanders told reporters, "When the President no longer has confidence in someone, you'll know".

Last week, The Washington Post reported that after James Comey was sacked in May 2017 and McCabe assumed the director's job on an acting basis, the president asked him in a private discussion whom he had voted for in the presidential election.

The inspector general is also looking into whether Comey made improper decisions, including his decision to announce the FBI would not recommend charges and his subsequent decision to publicly announce he was re-opening the investigation just 11 days before the 2016 election, after new emails were discovered. But Trump and the administration was "not happy" with him, the same source said.

"The president wasn't part of this decision-making process". McCabe told Trump he would have approved Comey's flight, but said he was not asked beforehand. In December, Trump tweeted "FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is racing the clock to retire with full benefits". But McCabe is a civil service employee who can not be fired without clear evidence of wrongdoing. His wife's run for office also started months before he had any role in the Clinton probe. In those texts, they called Trump an "idiot" and a "loathsome human".
