Malcolm Young, co-founder and rhythm guitarist of Australian rock band AC/DC, has passed away at 64. "With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band", the band posted on Facebook without saying where he died. Young later announced his departure from the band in 2014 due to health reasons that were later revealed to be dementia.

Young and the other members of AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes, guitarist Slash, horror writer Stephen King, Kiss frontman Paul Stanley, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Bryan Adams, songwriter Diane Warren and Joe Elliott from Def Leppard also took to social media to pay tribute.

For years it was presumed to have been destroyed, emerging only in 2005 when it was purchased from a United States estate. Furthermore, he added it's honestly "wonderful" for an "Old Master" to be at the center of attention once again.

The band continued to gain speed with 1979's Highway to Hell, which sold more than a million copies worldwide. Young started AC/DC in 1973 with his brother, fellow guitarist Angus. Even so, Angus Young added, "He was still capable of knowing what he wanted to do", and Malcolm set out to relearn his own music for that last tour.

It was odd for him, Angus told Rolling Stone, "but he was always a confident guy, and we made it work". He took great pride in all that he endeavored. "As a brother, it is hard for me to say with words what he has meant in my life".
