Apple sales gets a boost from 8 days of iPhone 8”

Apple's fourth fiscal quarter, the one that ends just before holiday shopping begins, historically has one great week of sales to report - the new iPhone released in late September.

With its new iPhone X launching Friday, Apple is setting the ambitious goal for itself of reinventing the smartphone as strives to fend off fierce competition from rivals, especially in China. The combo of new iPad Pro models alongside the low-priced but excellent standard iPad led to 10.3 million tablets sold for Apple, up 11 percent year-over-year.

Q4 revenue: $50.7 billion expected by Thomson Reuters.

Apple sold 46.7 million iPhones in the three-month period ending September 30, up 3% from the same quarter a year earlier.

Tourists to be banned from climbing Uluru
Indigenous Australians have also complained about visitors urinating on the rock, potentially contaminating water sources. Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - that's about in the middle of the country.

Apple's upbeat results suggest the company is on track to deliver the biggest profit ever recorded by a U.S. company in the next quarter, which included the all-important holiday shopping season and the release of its latest iPhone.

In the year-ago quarter (Q4 2016), Apple earned $46.9 billion in revenue.

A merchant at the Huaqiangbei electronics hub in Shenzhen, who was offering an iPhone look-a-like called the "E-Feng X" from 1,599 yuan, said sales volumes were "very good".

IPhones usually account for about two-thirds of Apple revenue and the devices are a hub for a growing suite of other products and services from the company.

"The ramp for iPhone X is going well", said Cook.

Apple's revenue guidance for Q4 2017 fell between $49 billion and $52 billion, with gross margin estimated to be between 37.5% and 38%. But this year it took the unusual step of a staggered launch, releasing the iPhone 8 - essentially an incremental advance over the iPhone 7 - several weeks earlier than the iPhone X.

Apple is counting on the iPhone X to drive even higher-than-usual sales during the first nine months of next year - a scenario that might not play out if production problems persist and impatient consumers turn instead to phones from Google or Samsung.

Apple for years has sought to make the release of its new phones a landmark event.

Buffon to retire unless Juventus win Champions League
It was not enough to win in Europe and I hope that this year we can go one better, both with Juventus and the national team.

The iPhone is the main profit driver for Apple, accounting for more than half its revenues, and importantly is the cornerstone for the ecosystem of other devices and services. He said he expects the current quarter to be the company's biggest ever, after a "sensational year" for 2017. By comparison, Apple shipped almost 217 million iPhones in its just-completed fiscal 2017.
