16 dead after boat capsizes in Andhra”

At least 16 people, including nine women, died and seven were missing after an overloaded boat with 41 people on board capsized in the Krishna river near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred when all the tourists got together on one side, causing the boat to tilt.

Another 20 people swam to safety or were rescued by villagers in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh state Home Minister N. Chinnarajappa said. Another three passengers were rescued by the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) late in the night.
