Theresa May's speech proves she has learnt nothing from her disastrous election

Theresa May's speech proves she has learnt nothing from her disastrous election”

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May looked set to survive the storm surrounding her premiership on Thursday as senior Conservatives said rebels plotting to replace her do not have enough support to force her out.

May also struggled to deliver the speech after succumbing to multiple coughing fits and a hoarse voice that was brought on by a "conference cold", her office said.

The calamitous scenes will revive the speculation over Mrs May's future which have gripped the party since the Conservatives lost their majority following her decision to call a general election.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who goaded her in the run-up to the event with outspoken interventions on Brexit, gave May his full support in his speech on Tuesday.

That said, Ed Vaizey has claimed "quite a few" MPs want her to go.

The officer, who suffered serious stabbing wounds to his head, face, and arm , is expected to make a full recovery. Sharif has been remanded into custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing in provincial court on Tuesday morning.

There were also issues with the "Building A Country That Works For Everyone" sign behind the prime minister, which appeared to be falling off the wall.

She tweeted: "The plot is by remain MPs to topple the PM, destroy Boris and put a remain leader in place to delay and possibly destroy #Brexit".

The stakes were high for the Prime Minister to cheer up her party and show she had understood the lessons of the election, as she took to the stage for her main address.

The MP and former minister, Grant Shapps, said in media interviews Friday he had the support of about 30 Conservative MPs, including five former cabinet ministers. You can't just carry on when things aren't working.

Grant Shapps, identified as the ringleader of the effort to oust May after a faltering performance at the party's conference this week and cabinet infighting over Brexit, said there was growing momentum behind the calls for her to step down.

Under party rules, if 48 Tory lawmakers write letters calling for May to resign, a leadership contest is triggered. Again, she managed a joke as Treasury chief Philip Hammond handed her a throat lozenge, saying the audience should note that he was "giving something away for free".

The Scottish Sun says Theresa May suffered another disaster as her Tory conference speech descended into chaos.

"So, whether you're trying to buy your own home, renting privately and looking for more security, or have been waiting for years on a council list, help is on the way", she promised.

"This is a Conservatism I believe in, a Conservatism of fairness and justice and opportunity for all, a Conservatism that keeps the British dream alive for a new generation", she said.
