Barack Obama chooses artist Kehinde Wiley to produce official presidential portrait”

Former first lady, Michelle Obama, selected a popular Baltimore artist identified as, Amy Sherald, to paint her own portrait.

Los Angeles native and gay artist Kehinde Wiley will be painting the portrait of the United States' first black president.

The Portrait Gallery is now raising funds for the portraits, which will be unveiled in early 2018.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to attend the October 16 meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna. Six assault rifles, 500 rounds of ammunition, pistol, gelatine sticks were recovered.

Known for lush, larger-than-life portraits that overlay black street culture with European classical motifs, Wiley is an exciting choice for the presidential portrait. Currently, a diptych of the former president by Chuck Close is on view in the "America's Presidents" exhibit and will remain until the official portrait is ready.

Although he did not grow up with him, Kehinde's father is Nigerian while his mother is African American. "I'm actively campaigning", Wiley said of painting Obama in an interview with Time Out New York in 2008.

Both artists are known mainly for their work painting African-American subjects with colorful backgrounds. His rich, highly saturated color palette and his use of decorative patterns complement his realistic, yet expressive, likenesses.

Sherald's trademark gray-toned masterpieces have taken the art world by storm, and she is the recipient of several prizes, including the National Portrait Gallery's prestigious Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition.

The former POTUS tapped renowned artist Kehinde Wiley, while the former FLOTUS went with an artist on the rise, choosing up-and-coming Amy Sherald to paint her portrait, the Smithsonian announced Monday.

While they are not the first ever to paint presidential portraits (the White House commissioned black artist, Simmie Knox, to paint the Clintons in 2000), their selection still makes history.
