Tom Price's taxpayer-funded private-jet travels mixed business with pleasure

Tom Price's taxpayer-funded private-jet travels mixed business with pleasure”

The interior of a Lear-60 executive jet, which Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price chartered to fly from San Diego to the "Aspen Ideas Festival" in Aspen, Colo.

Meanwhile, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sent detailed travel records requests to the White House and 24 departments and agencies, dating back to Trump's first day in office.

"The American people deserve cabinet secretaries who place the public good above their own private interests", said Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who said Price "should resign immediately".

The HHS inspector general's office began a review last week to determine if Price complied with federal travel regulations, which generally require officials to minimize costs.

Evacuations from Bali volcano cross 57000, officials expect Mount Agung eruption
Thousands are living in temporary shelters after a 12km exclusion zone was set up around the mountain. Many tourists in region with a high risk of explosion had to cut off holidays on island of Bali .

Asked if he had confidence in Price after the reports on his travel, Trump said: "I am looking at that very closely".

Lawmakers are demanding records by October 10.

Price, who once railed against Democrats in Congress using private planes paid for with government funds, took a trip in August to the St. Simons Island resort in Georgia, where he and his wife Betty own land.

The President said he's "not happy" with Price over those flights and told reporters that he'll "look at it".

The initial background checks were carried out by a third party but TfL deemed them inadequate following a review. In an open letter , Dara Khosrowshahi apologized to Londoners for "mistakes" of company, Monday 25 September.

Trump's publicly expressed displeasure - or ambivalence - has been a sign in the past that the tenure of a key aide will soon be over.

"I'm not happy with Tom".

The letter reminded Price and other recipients that official travel for all federal employees must be "by the most expeditious means of transportation practicable", and be in line with an employee's function.

"We'll see", Mr. Trump said. I am not happy with it. He could always fire him, let someone at the department take over as "interim" director, and then just sort of forget to nominate a replacement, which is what's been happening at DHS ever since John Kelly moved over to chief of staff. That sort of hectoring and public penny-pinching became part of Price's persona, helping in his rise to chair of the powerful House Budget Committee, where he repeatedly proposed massive cuts to social programs aiding the poor, the elderly and the ill.
