PNA hails Interpol's approval of Palestinian membership

PNA hails Interpol's approval of Palestinian membership”

The United Nations has rejected warnings from the USA and Israel and voted to include the Palestinians in "Interpol".the global police agency.

It was a painful loss for Israel in particular, after it pushed against Palestinian acceptance both on technical and substantive grounds, arguing that the Palestinian Authority did not meet Interpol's requirements to qualify as a state.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak called it "another failure" for Netanyahu.

In 2012, the U.N. General Assembly upgraded the Palestinian Authority's observer status at the United Nations to "non-member state" from "entity", like the Vatican.

China limits oil trade to North Korea and bans textile trade
That's a question being asked after North Korea's foreign minister said his country may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean. By 2005, the Chinese were complaining about intercepted shipments of methamphetamine and MDMA being trafficked from North Korea.

Ashrawi made these comments after her meeting with New Zealand Representative to Palestine Barney Riley and his team as well as Palestinian Head of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Izzat Abdulhadi at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah. The Palestinian foreign minister added in an interview with the Palestinian press that the joining of the Palestinian Authority is the result of countries that choose to defend the existence of INTERPOL and promote the body's basic values.

The Palestinians already have been providing evidence in a preliminary war crimes investigation against Israel at the International Criminal Court, another international body they have joined.

About 300 Palestinians - majority assailants, Israel says - have also been killed in that period, according to AFP news agency.

"At Interpol, we aim to facilitate global police cooperation even where diplomatic relations do not exist between particular countries", it says in a statement on its website.

Bruno Min, a legal and policy officer at Fair Trials, a Europe-based human rights organization with a special focus on Interpol, said that Israel may also be concerned about the sharing of sensitive data. It claimed victory previous year when the Palestinian bid to join the global police body was suspended.

The Palestinians needed the support of at least two-thirds of the member countries to be accepted.

Riad Malki said in a statement Wednesday that the vote by the Interpol general assembly "is the voice of confidence in the capacity of law enforcement in Palestine".
