Dozens of nations sign nuclear ban treaty

Dozens of nations sign nuclear ban treaty”

The Philippines, represented by Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, signs the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations headquarters in NY on September 20, 2017.The Philippines, represented by Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, signs the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations headquarters in NY on September 20, 2017.

The statement said that "a purported ban on nuclear weapons that does not address the security concerns that continue to make nuclear deterrence necessary can not result in the elimination of a single nuclear weapon and will not enhance any country's security, nor worldwide peace and security".

By now, there are an additional four "de facto" nuclear powers, namely India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea, which also boycotted the treaty.

He said the Philippines' adoption of the treaty affirms the country's "unequivocal commitment" to see nuclear weapons' extinction, which is a "cause of the highest priority embodied in our country's constitution".

Nuclear powers say the nonproliferation treaty is making a difference.

Clayton Kershaw Surrenders First Career Grand Slam
The offense put up four runs on four hits. "I thought about that right at the start of the inning", Mackanin admitted. Since returning from the disabled list, Kershaw has started four games and has shown a couple of signs of being human.

But, like the signers of the treaty, we should recognize that the danger of nuclear annihilation will persist as long as any nations possess nuclear weapons. A shipload of nuclear fuel containing plutonium returned to Japan after reprocessing in France for use at the Takahama plant as the country tries to burn more plutonium amid worldwide concerns about its stockpile.

"The world will only be safe if we eliminate all weapons of mass destruction", he added.

"So, ever since that period, we've always been very much a strong advocate for de-nuclearization of the world", Onyeama said.

The island and 40 other States endorsed the initiative adopted on July 7, which prohibits the development, testing, production, acquisition, possession, storage and transfer, as well as the threat of use of those lethal devices considered a serious danger for human survival.

The treaty's backers believe that their path is the best option to prevent future nuclear catastrophes of the kind experienced by Japan in 1945 during the closing days of World War II.

Trump Retweets Mock Video of Golf Shot Knocking Over Hillary
It's not the first time Trump has come under fire for tweeting edited video in which he could be seen to be promoting violence. The retweet comes after Trump attacked Clinton directly last Wednesday (Thursday NZT) in a pair of tweets.

During Thursday's ceremony, new signatories of the treaty urged the nuclear armed contingent to reconsider their position. May participated in a citizens signing ceremony for the treaty in front of Parliament Hill today.

"Those who still hold nuclear arsenals, we call upon them to join this date with history", Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis said as he prepared to sign.

"It will raise public awareness about the risks of nuclear weapons".

But delays in getting eight more countries to ratify the treaty mean that it still has not entered into force. Nuclear powers are also the only United Nations members with permanent Security Council veto power.
