Apple to FCC: Here's Why Repealing Net Neutrality Is a Bad Idea

Apple to FCC: Here's Why Repealing Net Neutrality Is a Bad Idea”

You have until midnight Eastern Time tomorrow night (Wednesday) to file comments on the Federal Communications Commission plan to deregulate broadband service and roll back net neutrality rules. The businesses warn policymakers that, "While big companies might be able to afford a pay-to-play prioritized "fast lane" to users, small and medium sized enterprises like ours can not".

In its first public comments on the issue, Apple urged the FCC on Thursday to preserve strong net neutrality rules.

Major cable companies have applauded the plan and say they are encouraged by Pai's intention to take a "weed-whacker" to the net neutrality rules and replace them with "light-touch" regulation.

Turkish bodyguards charged in bloody embassy beatdown
Sinan Narin and Eyup Yildirim, two of those indicted who were not a part of the Turkish security detail, were arrested on June 14. The Turkish Embassy claimed the protesters, who were located across the street from the Embassy, were members of a terror group.

"As negotiations progress on a permanent solution for net neutrality that ensures a free and open internet, the committee will postpone the original hearing in order to allow talks between stakeholders to continue", he said.

While millions of individuals (and possibly a few bots) weighed in on the proposal, so did companies.

The iPhone maker's comments on the FCC's proposed Internet regulations outline a handful of policy goals, from promoting consumer choice and prohibiting Internet fast lanes that prioritize certain traffic, to providing transparency about how broadband providers manage traffic and networks. This means that many consumers can not switch providers even if they learn that their broadband provider interferes with the internet's openness in a way that they oppose. "The result would be an internet with distorted competition where online providers are driven to reach deals with broadband providers or risk being stuck in the slow lane and losing customers due to lower quality service".

Harvey horror: Toddler found clinging to drowned mother
Authorities said they are not going to release the mother's and child's names until family members and friends are notified. Water was up to the trestle and first responders would not have been able to save the child if they'd floated under it.

The filing calls for "retain [ing] strong, enforceable open Internet protections" and argues that the FCC's current rules are effective at protecting consumers and online businesses.

Pai has said the rules are bad for jobs and investment, and amount to "the government controlling the internet". That's the current net neutrality approach that Pai - with the backing of companies like AT&T and Comcast - hopes to scrap.
