Workweek Weather: Some clouds for eclipse; back to humidityā€¯

Weather conditions in the Shoals appear to be lining up for a good viewing opportunity of today's solar eclipse.

Though some clouds are possible along the OR coast, clear skies are expected in cities such as Salem, Ore.; Boise, Idaho; and Casper, Wyo., according to the National Weather Service.

We are hours away from the big solar eclipse.

Today, Eclipse Day on Shelter Island, will be mostly sunny, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Cloudy skies mean the decrease will not be as drastic.

For Wednesday, a 40 percent chance of scattered showers and storms mainly in northern and southern areas. This front brings the possibility of severe storms but the late night/early day timing may again save us from seeing widespread severe storms.

"We're going to have some high clouds around most of the day, which won't totally obscure the sun or the eclipse", meteorologist Dave Kook said this morning. You must have eye protection for viewing the solar eclipse.

Alabama starts atop AP poll for 2nd straight year
The last time an SEC team other than the Tide was preseason No. 1 was Florida in 2009; the Gators went 13-1 and finished third. Meanwhile, Ohio State - which is ranked second - is making its 29th consecutive appearance in the preseason poll.

Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 88 and a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

The eclipse starts at 1:02 pm with the maximum eclipse occurring at 2:30 pm for Lexington. Expect lots of sunshine through Friday with no real rain chances until (maybe) later in the weekend. High-resolution forecast data suggests a few isolated pop-up showers or a storm may develop. A few strong storms with gusty winds will be possible. West winds will help to make for a bit of a warmer afternoon across the state with highs climbing to 85-90.

Through the end of the week, rain chances will increase as another cool front swings in from the Great Plains by mid-week. "If they are high clouds and they are thin enough - I think most people will be OK".
