Police 'speechless' after killer nurse suspected of murdering at least 84 patients”

A German nurse now serving a life sentence in prison for murdering six patients may have killed 84 more, making him one of the country's worst ever serial killers, police and prosecutors said Monday. Niels Hoegel was convicted in 2015 of two murders and two attempted murders at a clinic in the northwestern town of Delmenhorst. "[There was] evidence for at least 90 murders, and at least as many [suspected] cases again that can no longer be proven", he said at a press conference.

The crimes came to light after Hoegel was convicted of attempted murder in another case.

Kuehme said the number of victims could be even higher as some of the deceased had been cremated.

Numerous killings could have been prevented if local health authorities had acted on their suspicions at the time, Mr Kühme said.

He said this rally will again prove that Lalu is the "only mass leader" in Bihar and his social support base is still intact. Recorded messages of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her deputy Rahul Gandhi were played at the event.

Authorities have been exhuming bodies of former patients' of Hoegel.

"Eighty-four killings. leave us speechless", Kuehme said. "And as if all that were not enough, we must realize that the real dimension of the killings by Niels H.is likely many times worse". Officials have stated that many deaths could have been avoided if authorities had been alerted earlier by staff at the Clinic.

He faulted local health authorities for being slow to act.

It found that Hoegel had administered lethal injections to patients at a hospital in Oldenburg, where he worked from 1999 to 2001.

Hoegel admitted during his trial that he caused cardiac crises in approximately 90 patients so could resuscitate them.

Hoegel, now 40, told the court at the time that he had enjoyed trying to revive the patients.

The German Nils Hogel, a medical practitioner, is suspected of at least 84 murders committed in Germany from 2000 to 2005.

The identities of the suspected 84 victims haven't been released.
