North Korea missile threat: United States diplomatic efforts failed, Fmr. Navy SEAL says”

The U.S. military shot down a medium-range ballistic missile during a test off Hawaii, officials said.

The vessel detected and tracked the target missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii with its onboard AN/SPY-1 radar, the statement read.

The missile defense agency director Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves said the test was a "key milestone" in enhancing the country's ballistic defense technologies, CNN noted. A sailor on the USS John Paul Jones triggered a self-destruct sequence by mistake.

Houston police officer drowns in submerged patrol auto
When he did not arrive for regular roll call Monday, officers called his wife, who said she had not seen him since Sunday. Sunday and "spent about 2½ hours driving around trying to get to his station", Acevedo said .

The missile defence drill was conducted from the Arleigh Burke-class USS John Paul Jones, state the statement issue by US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) on Wednesday. Monday's intercept test, like others the USA has conducted, was long planned, the MDA said.

The United States regularly tests its missile-defense systems, and this was the second time one of its Standard Missile-6 missiles successfully intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile, the agency said. The North warned that it will continue firing missiles into the Pacific Ocean, adding that the recent test was a "prelude" to possible strikes on or around Guam. President Donald Trump said "all options are on the table" in response to the test.

The U.S. military still has numerous missile defense assets - from Patriot interceptors to Terminal High Altitude Area Defense systems - in the area though. It's the only missile that supports anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare and sea-based terminal ballistic missile defense in one solutionand it's enabling the US and its allies to cost-effectively increase the offensive might of surface forces.

United Nations calls for humanitarian cease-fire in Raqqa, Syria
The UN on Thursday called for a humanitarian pause to allow 20,000 trapped civilians to escape the besieged Syrian city of Raqqah. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and injured in attacks from all sides since these new offensives began.

The August 30 test launch was the third time that the Standard Missile-6 successfully engaged a ballistic missile target in its terminal phase.

The sense of urgency can partially be traced back due to rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea's is rapidly advancing its burgeoning ballistic missile program.
