"Kate's Law" Passes the House of Representatives

Kate's Law ― named for Kate Steinle, who was killed in 2015, allegedly by an undocumented immigrant who had previously been deported ― would also likely lead to lengthier detention.

"You talk to the families who have been adversely affected by that, it is a wrenching experience", he said Tuesday morning.

"This bill is not ideal, and it's shameful that the Republicans did not allow any debate".

Trump has repeatedly advocated for stricter laws against criminals who are in the country illegally.

A second bill, "No Sanctuary for Criminals Act", would bar states and localities that refuse to cooperate with immigration authorities from receiving certain Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security grants, including some related to law enforcement and terrorism. In a post on the right-leaning Cato Institute's website, the think-tank's immigration policy analyst David Bier described the "No Sanctuary" bill as anti-federalist and said parts of it pose a threat to state sovereignty.

High temperatures causing issues for firefighters battling blazes throughout California
Firefighters battled high winds Tuesday as they fought a fire that has grown to 72 square mile and burned 21 cabins and sheds. The fire is burning in communities around Prescott, a mountain city about 100 miles (160.9 kilometers) north of Phoenix.

The legislation seeks to make sure local law enforcement with sanctuary city protections for criminal illegal aliens are properly turning over those individuals to federal authorities.

Like the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, the Davis-Oliver Act cracks down on risky sanctuary city jurisdictions by clarifying ICE detainer authority, withholding federal grant funding, and protecting compliant jurisdictions from the threat of lawsuits. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and attorneys general from 10 other states filed a supportive brief Wednesday.

But San Francisco refused to do so. Immigration officials say the suspect, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, is a seven-time felon who had been deported to Mexico five times in the past and should have been deported again after an arrest in March. Every year, countless Americans are victimized, assaulted, and killed by illegal immigrants who have been deported multiple times.

The investigation later revealed the gun used to kill Steinle had been stolen from a U.S. Bureau of Land Management ranger's vehicle where it had been left unsecured, and the bullet that struck the Pleasanton native actually ricocheted off the ground before hitting her in the back.

"Although people who illegally re-enter the country do so to reunite with their families, or to flee violence or persecution, this bill considers them all unsafe criminals who deserve lengthy prison sentences", Democratic Representative Jerrold Nadler said during debate on "Kate's Law".

Freddie Roach Says Manny Pacquiao Wants Floyd Mayweather Rematch
After dressing up, Pacquiao entertained a few fans who wanted pictures taken with him. "Speed will be overwhelming, I feel". Pacquiao, for his part, would love to find out if Horn's power is for real.

But ICE head Thomas Homan insists more must be done to clamp down on criminal organizations, which he said are smuggling people into the country. Those are the names of just four young and innocent people whose lives were cut short by illegal immigrants harbored by sanctuary cities.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and police Chief Shelly Zimmerman both have said officers should not enforce federal immigration laws. "I wish this was an exaggeration". It is the duty of government to protect the safety of its citizens.

The other six Republicans voting against this bill were Reps.

"I have never forgotten these stories", Barletta said.

"Look, we can not bring back those that we've lost". We don't want to see them in prison; this is ridiculous.

Pandora CEO quits, media bigwig Jason Hirschhorn joins board
Pandora CFO Naveen Chopra has been named interim CEO until the company finds a more permanent replacement. Tim Leiweke, a Pandora board member, explained that it was Westergren's decision to leave the company.

House Republicans passed similar legislation in 2015, but action was blocked in the Senate as Democrats prevented proponents from getting the 60 votes they needed to proceed. It is a bait-and-switch strategy: "use a terrible tragedy to sell a policy that would not have prevented that death, so that you put more immigrants in jail for longer periods of time".
