Commuter complaints few as Penn Station repairs begin

Commuter complaints few as Penn Station repairs begin”

A massive two-month fix project, dubbed the "Summer of Hell", launches today at the busiest train station in the United States, and Hudson Valley rail commuters used to regular delays and service disruptions are bracing for the worst. While the MTA claims it has enough train cars to accommodate all LIRR commuters, the game plan includes reducing the number of morning and evening trains to Penn Station with a mix of cancelations and reroutings to subway stations in Brooklyn and Queens.

Monday's morning rush saw no crowds early on outside the Hoboken train and ferry stations, where New Jersey Transit is diverting some rush hour trains so passengers can switch to PATH trains or ferries.

Amtrak is beginning extensive repairs to tracks and signals in Penn Station Monday, prompted by two recent derailments and other problems that spotlighted the station's aging infrastructure.

"A lot of confusion and too many people gathered in one space", said Lex Marshall, 35, of Morristown. Instead, the most noticeable inconvenience that Boston-based users of Penn Station might notice is more crowded Amtrak trains.

As a way for the thousands of affected commuters to avoid the inevitable headaches they will face while the work continues through September 1, MTA Chairman Joe Lhota suggested on Sunday that they "try to come in earlier - or later if your job allows it". Transit officials announced at Penn Station that the train had derailed.

The work is scheduled to last through the end of August.

Pistons renounce rights to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope after Bradley trade
While picking up someone of Bradley's ilk could quiet naysayers, losing Caldwell-Pope after just four seasons is still a rather tough blow.

Now the situation is a bit strict, where the New Jersey Transit Rail Service has suspended it's all in and out trains from Penn Station, which disrupted the area's population who has to take a different route to reach their destinations.
