Celtics to sign Hayward

Gordon Hayward was initially reported to be joining the Boston Celtics.

Hayward will be reunited with in Boston Brad Stevens, who also coached him in college at Butler. A tweet by John Habershaw showed Hayward, Stevens and Habershaw's brother posing for a picture. Terms of Hayward's new deal were not immediately known.

Two league sources immediately confirmed that Celtics president Danny Ainge had not, in fact, heard from Hayward.

Texas Messes With Marriage Equality
This court ruling has not resonated well with LGBTQ advocates, many of whom have pledged to take a stand against the decision. Rights groups for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people contended the plaintiffs were trying to erode the U.S.

Knowing all that, the Celtics tried to sell Hayward on their current core and the potential to enhance that with the development of young players and future draft picks.

Hayward met with the Celtics, Jazz and Miami Heat over the past few days, weighing his free agency options.

However, despite the report, Hayward's agent Mark Bartelstein insisted no decision had been made.

It appeared Gordon Hayward had made a decision Tuesday about where he would be playing next season.

The 27-year-old made the National Basketball Association all-Star team last season, averaging a career-high 21.9 points per game. If they had just given Hayward a five-year contract themselves, he still would've been locked up.

The Celtics shut down Thomas at halftime of Game 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in late May after he aggravated a hip ailment that had lingered since late in the regular season. "I will say this: I'm hearing Boston is feeling really, really good about their chances of getting him", Haynes said on SportsCenter. Unless the free agent made a decision to take less than the max, Ainge will likely need to find a new home for either Marcus Smart or Avery Bradley.
