OECD Says Global Growth 'Better But Not Good Enough”

The OECD forecast USA growth of 2.1 percent this year and 2.4 percent next year, down from estimates in March of 2.4 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively.

The world economy is projected to grow 3.5 percent this year, the Paris-based think tank said in its semi-annual Global Economic Outlook report.

Britain's economy, however, is forecast to slow to a 1% growth rate in 2018 - after a 1.6% advance this year "owing to uncertainty about the outcome of the Brexit negotiations", the OECD said.

"We need a more inclusive, rules-based globalisation that works for all, centred on people's well-being", said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria in a press release accompanying the economic report.

The OECD, whose members comprise the richest economies in the world and that serves as a policy think-tank, expects an improvement in the United States, stable growth in the 19-country eurozone and a slowdown in Japan and China.

"Economic activity slowed in 2016 against the backdrop of a failed putsch in July and increased geopolitical tensions in the region", the organization said in its economic outlook for June 2017.

"It is a path toward normalization and is consistent with what the European Central Bank has been saying", said Catherine L. Mann, the OECD's chief economist, of its new advice. It also lowered its projection for 2018 to 2.4% from 2.8%.

A large decline in house prices from current elevated levels poses the "single largest domestic risk" for the Australian economy, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. "Fiscal policy will remain supportive but should prioritize social inclusion more".

In 1984, Deford wrote Alex: The Life of a Child . "His loss is immeasurable". The Baltimore native spent 50 years writing for Sports Illustrated .

The OECD outlook also stipulated that gradually reducing the degree of monetary accommodation by raising the policy rate from its all-time low of 1.25 percent would benefit in keeping inflation in check and help contain the country's spiking household debt, noting the growth of lending to households remains high.
