Google to stop scanning e-mail for ads

Google to stop scanning e-mail for ads”

However, senior VP of Google Cloud Diane Greene told Bloomberg that some businesses were confused by the distinction between the services and voiced privacy concerns. In a blog post Friday, the company said its Gmail ad targeting in the future will be based on existing account-wide settings that users can control. The move brings consumer Gmail and G Suite's Gmail more closely aligned, Google said in a press release.

A report in TechCrunch also suggests that Google might simply already have more than enough data on its 1.2 billion Gmail users.

For those who don't know G Suite is Google's solution for enterprises. In other words, the company doesn't need this additional information about its users in order to serve targeted ads. The only thing that will change (when the changes are put into place, "later this year") is the source of personalizing information.

Turkey says Syrian Kurdish fighters are an extension of an insurgent Kurdish terror group operating in Turkey. The drone was armed and was allegedly prepared to make an attack on US forces.

Ad personalization, meanwhile, is based on inputs such as browser history and views on other Google-affiliated sites such as YouTube. Google says that the cessation of scanning emails is in part to assure business customers of the confidentiality of their communications. Click on that, and you'll have to go a tab called 'Manage Ad settings'.

Paying Gmail users aren't shown ads and their inboxes aren't scanned.

In the blog post, Greene added: "Google's G Suite business is gaining enormous traction among enterprise users".

WannaCry Panic Sweeps Vic: Traffic Fines Unaffected
While the ransomware's spread has since been quelled, there are still instances alive in the wild. Each camera was said to been infected innocently by a worker's USB.

Google has been in the practice of accessing your emails to create adverts which are shown in Gmail, almost since its inception. That's because the former actually don't get their emails read by Google while the latter does.

To help finance the free service, Google has been scanning through what Gmail users were discussing and then showing ads connected to some of the topics. Just toggle off and the ads will stop for the said account.

"This decision brings Gmail ads in line with how we personalize ads for other Google products".
