Germany and China vow to deepen ties amid Trump concerns”

In Berlin, Li and Merkel oversaw the signing of a slew of deals including electric vehicle projects between Germany's biggest automobile groups, Volkswagen and Daimler, with Chinese companies.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, speaking to reporters during a visit to Berlin, said fighting global warming was a "global consensus" and an "international responsibility".

Germany and China vowed on Thursday to expand their partnership and pledged to continue fighting climate change, sending a signal to Washington hours before US President Donald Trump announces if he will quit a global climate deal.

Mr Li stressed that China was committed to tackling climate change, both via the Paris Agreement and by setting national targets.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Britain would continue to press Washington to reduce unsafe emissions even if Mr Trump pulls out.

Li was speaking ahead of a two-day summit that began in Brussels later in the day, when China and the European Union were expected to recommit to free trade and the Paris Agreement in a sweeping rejection of Trump's protectionist policies.

"We will continue to lobby the Americans and the White House to show the leadership they have shown in the past on reducing CO2, " he said.

Russian Federation joined the chorus speaking out in favour of the climate accord.

Li is expected also to sign a joint statement reaffirming China and EU's commitment to the Paris Agreement.

EU officials say they will bring up the South China Sea in the talks on Friday, but they will be wary to avoid a repeat of last year's tense EU-China summit in Beijing, which failed to agree a joint statement because of the maritime issue.

Li said he believed the two had found a solution on the issue of Chinese quotas for electric cars after a lengthy discussion.

However, thorny issues remain between the two exporting nations, with Ms Merkel saying she had pressed China to open up its market more to German firms who want a level playing field.

Merkel and Li met hours ahead of Trump's decision on whether to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord.

When it comes to the European integration process, Mr Li said as a comprehensive strategic partner of the EU, China is glad to see a cohesive, prosperous and stable Europe.

Johnson told Sky News that Britain still wants the U.S.to take the lead in fighting climate change and called on individual US states to keep making progress on that front.

How do you pack all that in? I, for one, would like to see less money taken from my check so I can do some projects. The report says that is partly because insurance on average would cover less of people's health care costs.
